Default T206: Real or Fake?

Posted By: Aron

Here's a T206 Wagner being auctioned as a reprint.

Among other things the seller notes:

"...The card does feel old and “used”, but the print seems to be kind of fuzzy, meaning it doesn’t exactly look like the original printing...
I am not selling this card to be authentic. I am just selling the card, and letting the buyer be the judge of it."

I am, of course, highly skeptical that this could be a real card. The images are nonetheless, (at least to me), compelling.

The seller, also, has sold ungraded vintage cards recently, which, along with this card, he supposedly purchased from some college students holding a yard sale. The Goudeys, at least, appeared to be genuine. (Based on, granted, my limited experience with vintage cards.)

I'd be interested in feedback onthis card from others.

Thanks,
Aron

Take back what I said, as I don't want to give advice on how to make better fakes to people I don't know. Sorry.

If you want my opinion on the card as a whole, it appears to be a homemade fake.

I think this card only comes with the factory 25 back. This one has factory 30.

Its sad, I have to agree with David. I will no longer give info out on how to spot fakes unless it's someone I know. Too many scammers just wanted to know how to better their cards. Sorry to the poster, I mean no offense by this and am not saying you are a scam artist in anyway, but I dont know you good enough.

Forgers look for collectors who think that way ("If I buy 200 Wagner reprints, it only takes one real one"). Advanced collectors don't think that way. Even 'if there's a calculable chance it's real,' experienced buyers won't pay big bucks for an item unless they are conviced the item is real. If that means they forfeit the chance to win the "it's possible" lottery, that's fine.

If someone buys all the $50 Wagners on Yahoo, including this one, it's his money-- rather, it was his money.

Leon, can we just put a moritorium on all these fake Wagner threads. If anything sround has been beaten to death and people are sick tired of it and never want to see it again, it would be this topic.

I've just reached Upper Lower Class. I am now officially a babe magnet for poor chicks.

How about this, Jay? A thread about a T206 Wagner can be started if the Wagner is real.
