Default WSJ Article on Unopened Packs - Buying Baseball Cards Sight Unseen

Interesting article, although it would be nice if they had gotten the estimate of the value right. I would guess it will go for closer to $2,500 a BOX, not $2,500 a case (36 packs @ $70/pack). Small mistake......

Also, it angered me that they were implying that someone who didn't open a pack wasn't a collector or interested in sports--they were simply an investor. I think that couldn't be further from the truth--someone who leaves the pack unopened is simply an UNOPENED PACK COLLECTOR (in and of itself).

I'm wondering if news of this hoard of '75 minis will cause current mini sales to drop. Probably safe to assume that the number of high end graded minis will increase after May 2009.

"Inside each case are 16 boxes of cards. Inside each box are 36 packages that contain 10 cards each. In short, 149,760 cards are up for grabs."

Mini prices are already low. I suspect since so many came into the hobby direct and were not destroyed by kids, they must be as easy to find in nice shape as the regular cards.

I would love to see a Rack Pack of the minis-anyone have one to post?

The minis are around but the set is a bit hard to get in min tor better shape. There are a ton of rough cuts and the centering is often extremely bad. I have been considering buying a box to open in order to help my set, a case would be a ton of fun. Time will tell but this might just make the cards more available, which could increase demand and then increase price.
