I appreciate the support of everyone here and hope you enjoy perusing it half as much as I have writing it.

Here’s the link to the other thread to see the early reviews.

https://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=335573

I wanted to get another copy to have for family and friends as this is an “Instant Classic”. Now, I won’t mind showing some wear on my other copy!

PS, Jim please enclose that Matty card you know I want in your collection!

I was finally able to go and get my advanced copy as a contributor to the book and it is amazing. Jim was able to compile in one book a wealth of information that had previously been spread out among a group of collectors. Centralizing the information must have been an enormous undertaking and he did it masterfully. It has to rank up there as one of the best reference books for any area of the hobby that I have seen. Congratulations to Jim and a huge endorsement to anyone interested in sports memorabilia to buy this book (whether you collect photography or not).

I received my copy today. Truly extraordinary. Aside from the selection of incredible photos, the text is wonderful. There is so much knowledge being passed on, but the writing style is relaxing and so enjoyable to read. (Sometime reference books like this can bludgeon you with information in a way that is not enjoyable at all but quickly become a drag to get through.) Just floored by how concise and beautiful the writing is. I fear if I don't put the book down now I'm going to be up for hours. Bravo. All the accolades on this board to date I'm not sure do this book justice.

If the Baseball Hall of Fame or SABR have awards for the most important baseball book of the year, this has to be a frontrunner.

Wow! My copy came to work today, just got home and flipped through the first few pages. Same feeling I experienced when first watching Ken Burns documentary. Thank you Jim.

I also have now figured out who outbid me for any Type 1 photographs I ever bid on...

I have spent quite a bit of time with the book the past week and I learn something new every time that I crack it open. It is a delight to leaf through the pages. The quality of the binding and pages is superb. The amount of research that Jim put into this venture is very evident.

My copy arrived yesterday and was waiting for me when I returned home today. It's a beautiful book that I've only had time to flip through, but I'll settle down with it for a closer look this week. I love that Jim's signature page features my favorite pre-war player, Charles Bender.

So many to choose from it's hard to pick one but the Jones, Cobb, Crawford shot in Pittsburgh for the 09 series is a favorite. I was the under bidder on that one, glad it went to a good home.

Copy #67 arrived last Friday. I'm blown away by the quality of this book, both in content as well as print quality. I probably spent four hours going through it this weekend. As a vintage photo collector myself, this was money well spent.

Got mine today. Fantastic!

Props to whoever the printer was. I've got bookcases and bookcases of books, and I'm not sure I've seen one as nicely produced as this one.

Love the choice to go with the thicker satin finish on the pages. Really makes those older photos pop, like I haven't quite seen before.

Thanks for what must have been an extremely challenging (and expensive) undertaking.

I think, in the hobby, it's called a labor of love. One of the most well done books I have seen in the hobby. It reminds me of the OJ book...

I received mine several days ago.

I'm only 100 pages in so far (want to savor it), but my favorites so far are the image of Babe Ruth pitching in 1915 (Underwood & Underwood), Mike Gonzalez (Conlon), Tris Speaker sliding into Frank "Home Run" Baker, Taylor Smith (what an incredibly clear image), Javan Emory, Jack Coombs, Frank "Home Run" Baker photo with masking intact, and the Charles Bender picture in in the intro.

I had never seen any of those images before.

What a treasure this book is.

Jim - The 1914 Babe Ruth glass plate negative pitching pose left me speechless - I’ve never seen that image. I thought I’ve seen every Matty image, but your book has several Christy illustrations that were “firsts” for me. Finally, Henry Yee’s Babe Ruth 1920 spring training inaugural Yankees “in uniform” photo belongs in Cooperstown! So many other world-class photos, but these stuck out the most for me. Thanks so much for putting this work of art together for us collectors.

Sincerely,
Joe

I am pleased to announce that I will at the National to sell and sign copies of Baseball Photography of the Deadball Era . I will be set up at the Love of the Game booth. Copies will also be available at the RMY Auctions booth.

I anticipate giving a book talk at the National as well, with details to follow.

In the meantime, any orders placed on my website by this Friday will be shipped prior to the National.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Great book Jim, should be standard issue for any pre-war collector.

It was a pleasure many of you at the National and appreciate all the kind words. Thanks Leon for providing me with the opportunity to speak at the Net54 dinner regarding the book and Deadball photography. I hope everyone enjoys their books!
