Default October Pickup Thread...

It's late, I'm tired, perfect time to post a card of the notorious "Sleepy" Bill Burns (Ol' Sleepy couldn't even get his glove on properly). Thanks Larry!

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, Anthony. According to haulsofshame.com your Wonka McDonald T206 was one of the items taken in a burglary at the home of collector Lionel Carter a few years back. (Is the FBI reading?) I feel your pain, brah.

No chance it's stolen, David. I bought it from a former white rapper with financial problems in the New York Public Library broom closet.

I had no idea you were depicted in the T206 set! That is phenomenal...I can't find you in the Pop reports at all...that must be a SP, huh?

I've been looking for the rumored Wonka McDonald Buyback card for years as well. Let me know if you ever list on B/S/T board...

John - Nice T205 McConnell Buyback still waiting to get my wins.

Default '41 Play Ball toughie...........

Been looking for a decent '41 Play Ball Eddie Miller for some time. Thought this would have graded at least a PSA5. The centering is spot on, and the color/registration is superb. The reverse is spotless, centered, with very bold, black type. I'll keep looking, but I'm very happy with this card in the meantime.

Awesome pickups everyone!!!! I'm happy to get back into vintage after not really adding too much this year as I have been really focusing on adding to my 1965 Topps Auto set and me and my wife having a baby this past April. Here's whats come in so far this month:

Grab bag of items that have fallen into my greedy little hands in the past while (courtesy of eBay, Goodwin, Mears etc):

Trying to collect the 1928 SF Seals roster. Mishkin is a tough card.
Also trying to put together an Obak sub-set of Vancouver and Victoria players. Ward was the last Victoria Bee I needed, another toughie.

Picked up this Mono from Goodwin as a typecard.

Another typecard, my first E99, second-string Seals shortstop Harry McArdle. Love the floating head effect.
Looks like everyone else here has a Grignon Mordecai Brown postcard so I thought I should have one too.

Lastly, some photos I scored from eBay and Mears, respectively.
A classic out at the plate shot, umpire Jim Boyer working a Senators game in 1950.
And, the very first thing that ever dazzled me in a major league ballyard once upon a time long ago, the Chesterfield sign in centerfield at the Polo Grounds. A Hit!

Default Signed T205 Ed Walsh

Fell short on the Cobb, but picked up this nice consolation prize at a mere fraction of the price -- and it's my first signed pre-war card of a player from T206 that I don't also have on a T206:

It ain't pretty, but Coy knocks the 1909 Obak hunt down to a scant 3 cards to go. If you have Speas, Willett, or J Williams and are interested in naming my first born (really, any name is fine -- doesn't even need to have a vowel), let me know.

Default My only card......

Just picked this up on Ebay for a decent price Best Offer ($375)....I only wish the stain on the card was more fully on his pants, would have added a certain character to his uniform.
