Anyone else having sniper service snafus????

Last week I lost out on a lot of 4 graded PX7 Domino Discs which went for $53 and my snipe was set for $88. I was told it wasn't entered because of heavy ebay traffic and advised to set my time before closing from 5 seconds to 11 seconds to make sure it didn't happen again. I was then given 2 free snipes (small consolation as the PX7s went for a ridculous price).
Tonight I had a snipe set for $250.01 on a P-2 Cobb pin on ebay. The winning bid was $203.50. When I checked again with the snipe web page, there was nothing indicated on that snipe. Too bizarre.
Anyone else having these problems? I used auction sniper.com.

Although snipe services can be very beneficial they still run the risk of failing. If the ebay internet traffic is heavy it just might fail the last second snipes. That's the risk that you take when you use the snipe service.

Typically, those snipe services do work (for the most part).

Right after I wrote the above post, I tracked another snipe I had, on a P2 Collins (large letters) pin, constantly refreshing the page as the time wore down. This time it placed my bid, about a minute before the auction ended!!!! It let the 2nd high bidder get in another late bid but luckily I had bid high enough to win. Sheesh....

Julie- your memory is good on the facts and details but the company's name was auction something else, not auctionsniper.com. I can't remember the company's name but it seems like they may have gone out of business.

to be sure you can always do the snipe twice, once at a 7sec interval and another at the 5 sec time. They can't both fail!

Never used one, but can't help but wonder how safe any sniping service could be.

You must have to give them your eBay ID and password for it to work. Maybe at the very least send your info thru their server.

I have a tough time just trusting eBay with my info and surely they are a lot more secure than any "auction service". Hackers break into bank computers for crying out loud.

Could you imagine if somebody got your ID and password from one of those services.....they would then have access to ALL of your credit information on file with ebay.

Sounds to me like a first step on the road to a possible identity-theft. In fact that was why I quit using Andale counters, no way is anyone but me and eBay going to know my password if I can help it.

I just can't believe ANY snipe is worth those risks!!!!

auctionsniper and the only problems I consistently seem to have is I don't bid high enough! I was a little wary putting my info in the first time but I haven't had any problems and I routinely have 40-60 snipes at any given time (about 90% of which never win!!!!!).

They placed my bid exactly 60 seconds before the auction ended, but I had asked for 5 seconds. When I asked them about it, they blamed it on ebay. The explanation made no sense and each time I tried a different support email address I got the same techy and he told me he would be glad to close my account (although I didn't ask for that) but he wouldn't do anything else for me. So I stopped using them.

I was trying to snipe a Cabinet last night and the winning high bid was 250.00 less than my snipe bid which was NEVER PLACED. I had it set for 3 seconds which normally means 8-10 seconds in an auction. Auction Sniper replied to my complaint telling me to set it for 10-12 seconds hichs means around a minute in an auction. This defeats the whole purpose of sniping... I have also noticed that all auctions ending on the hour always bog down and many times the snipes get placed way to early or not at all. Heavy trafic on Ebay since many people end auctions on the hour, which is not a smart thing to do if you are a seller.

One last bitch... They have placed my snipe bids 45 seconds to early which allowed other people to peck away at my high bid or top my bids.. They have cost me more money than they even know...

Auction Sniper offered me a couple free snipes and a big sorry. I hope they are not planning on going public or merging with any companies anytime soon. They still have many bugs and glitches to work out.

I will be looking for a new sniping company now.

At the risk of you guys beating me out on some items I may be bidding on, I use bidnapper.com. I have never had any problems at all and you can get a year of unlimited service for $45.95. Less than $4 a month. I use to use auctionsniper until I found bidnapper.

Someone pecked away at me, costing me about $11.00 - auctionsniper ignored my request for a refund.

On a lighter note, I just returned from purchasing a perfect Christmas tree with only one stop and 5 minutes of looking...perfect male shopping! As a reward for my conquest, I stopped and bought a $56 bottle of single malt (Greg thinks I only drink cheap rum, so I felt I would set the record straight).

I seem to remember, as does Julie, that auctionstealer was having all kinds of trouble about a year or two ago with identity theft, misplaced snipes, etc. I thought they went under. I assume this is the same company and they are back?

Taking Barry's advice and using my log in name.
As a requiem on the auctionsniper.com situation, I have continued using them but have noticed they are very erratic with their bid placements and like Scott and JC mentioned, I have had people chip away once my snipe is placed, costing me money and also have had a snipe actually topped by someone who had plenty of time to regroup and rebid in the last 20-30 seconds. Humbug...

I have no problem sniping 10 seconds out vs. 5 seconds. Does anyone really think that a buyer who is monitoring an auction, but was not already planning to manually enter a bid, is going to be able to, all within 10 seconds, (i) notice a 10-seconds-out sniper bid, (ii) decide whether or not he wants to bid a higher amount, and (iii) enter such higher amount? If so, do you also believe the Warren Report? IMHO, those who manually place their bids within the final 10 seconds of an auction were already planning to do so regadless of a 10-sedonds-out sniper bid.

My Sniping service was pretty much perfect until about 2 weeks ago -- since then I think it has missed placing bids on 2 Fan Craze cards that I might have won had it worked -- I'll never know for sure -- but I know it cost the seller as much as $200. My service is "Powersnipe.com" which I recommended without reservation until now.... Yes, I am going to change the setting (if I can)to allow for more time (greater margin of error).....

Mark- I will agree with you on the 5 seconds vs. 10 seconds thing, but sometimes auctionsniper.com will place a bid as much as 50-60 seconds before the item closes for some bizarre reason and that is plenty of time for someone to jump on your snipe and cost you money. I can unhesitatingly say that a mere 20 second snafu can cost hundreds of dollars on higher priced cards.

I find it hard to feel sorry for snipers who get sniped !....that's just the way it goes, I dont use it now....may some day and whatever happens, happens.

just out of curiousity, why doesnt anyone use one of the free snipe services? Are they any more unreliable?
