I've been trying to find one of these for a couple of years.

Is there anyone out there who has a good scan of one?

I don't have the link handy, but you can find it in the Links section on this page.

Thank you Scott.

I've never seen one available in any auction. This looks like a real challenge for type card collectors.

In addition to Leon, I believe JC also has one or two displayed on his website, although I'm not sure if those are for sale/trade. The reason these don't come up for sale often is due to their rarity. I'm no expert, but I would say that Big Eaters are probably one of the the rarest pre-WWII PCL issues.

Robert Edwards had one in the their Spring '04 auction. It was part of a 1910 PCL rarities type lot which also included a T217 Mono, some Western Playgrounds and a couple of Bishops. The Big Eater card was of Thompson. The lot closed at over $8,000. A link to it is below.

I had three in one auction back around 1999; they came from a family from California who had them for a long time, but weren't collectors. I had no idea how rare they were but even then a couple of them sold in the $2000-3000 range, if I remember. It'll only cost you more today.

Thanks for the info. I've realized from looking at prices how much I would have to fork out to get one. I've just been amazed that they are so infrequently available.

I bought this at the National in 2000 from John Burke for $400. Only one I've ever seen in person.

Hello Roy,

Here is a link to my Big Eaters. I paid what Barry said they were worth 2-3K each. The problem is, it was 5 years ago... As Terry Knouse says... "Last I checked they were not making anymore of these".... JC

Thanks Bruce and Jim,

Those are great. I'd like to find a deal like Bruce got, but I'm expecting to play what Jim did and then some.

On the one hand it's nice that the ones that are in collections are well taken care of, on the other hand it means they are seldom available.

Thanks for the great pictures.

Scott
