Welcome to the "fray".....I mean Forum lol........

This is my fave quote about Charles Albert "Chief Bender.......

“If I had all the men I’ve ever handled, and they were in their prime, and there was one game I wanted to win above all others,” said Philadelphia Athletics icon Connie Mack, who managed fellow all-time pitching greats Lefty Grove, Herb Pennock, Eddie Plank, and Rube Waddell, “Albert would be my man.”

Peace, Mike

I would think female collectors are rare, but I could be wrong.

Default rare....

Renay is rare........ in good ways all around!

In terms of female collectors, I've been in the hobby since 1976 and I would agree that at shows, online forums, that it is rare to meet a female sporstscard collector. Maybe they are just shy?

I had a shop for many years and I'd say that my customers were 95% male, 5% female. I had a few but not many. They all were passionate about the hobby and knew their stuff!

Peace, Mike

I have photographed many day lilies over the years. My favorite is the golden chalice calla lily.

Day lily Brisbane City Botanical Gardens November, 2002. Another image from this shoot is a giclee above my dining room table.

It is always a pleasure to photograph nature up close. I had just photographed a snowy egret in that park and was walking around. At first I thought it was a leaf until I got closer. I once went to Fiji just to photograph orchids from Raymond Burr's collection in the Garden of the Sleeping Giant.

I would say 3-4% of registrations on here are probably female. Just an educated guess as there are not stats like that on our forum.

No I am not. Many nature photographs will sit for hours to get than one photo. That is their profession. I do no get paid for mine. I have no problem going to natural zoos or botanical gardens to photograph. If you choose the right perspective they can look natural.

Thank you. That is very kind. I have a lot of concert photos (and 100% in person music autographs) posted in a thread on the memorabilia side: OT - Of interest to metalheads only (and Kingston Trio fans). They are on the last 2 or 3 pages.

Glad we could broaden your Bender horizons. I don't have a scan of my E102 Bender, but here is one from the net. I have always liked the dot pattern seen in the very pleasing (for me at least) green background. This same artwork can also be seen in cards from the E92 Croft's Candy, Croft's Cocoa, Dockman and Nadja sets, as well as the E101, E105 Mello Mints, E106 American Caramel, the D303 General and Mother's Bread, and T216 Kotton, Mino, and Virginia. Many of these are tougher to come by, but the E92 Dockman, E101 and E102 cards are not too rare.

Enjoy anything you decide to pursue, Bender or otherwise!

Brian

I've always liked the dot pattern on that image too. Here's the Dockman back and another favorite Bender image.

I don't have a Bender. I do have a stack of cards that I am not going to know what to do with once PSA completes "the takeover".

Hello!

Female collector here. Australian as well

I am a big women in baseball collector, with a strong focus on the AAGPBL. I also collect 1920-1940 bats and gloves, snapshots, catchers equipment and Ruth related items.

This is a great forum and I have met some excellent collectors on here.

Good on ya!

I have been up and down your east coast in 5 trips - Sydney, Brisbane, Cairns, Palm Cove, Port Douglas and Kuranda. My wife and I were married in Sydney, 16 years this November. My next trip there I would like to revisit Brisbane, to show my wife Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary and Mt Coot-tha, the Red Center, would like to hike around Uluru and possibly your city to see the Cricket Grounds. I am an Olympic historian and have only seen it while watching 'The Ashes' on the telly during one of my trips.

Default First lady Grace Coolidge, Senators Rooter

Among the many female friends of baseball, we should count first lady Grace Coolidge. Frommer expands: Calvin Coolidge wasn't much of a baseball fan, but he had to fake it. The Senators won their only World Series during his presidency, in 1924, and the team was a national sensation. Coolidge became the first president to attend a World Series opener, where he threw out the first ball. But it was his wife, Grace, who was the real fan in the family. She kept score during the World Series games and kept her husband in the game. (You Gotta Have Heart by Frederic J. Frommer.)

Here are a couple of shots showcasing Coolidge in the act supported by his superior, the stylishly attired baseball fan and First Lady, Grace.

Great photos. I know there are also photos of Woodrow Wilson who was the first President to actually attend a World Series game. He was a big baseball fan and actually played college ball for Davidson College during his freshman year. He also never used his Presidential pass to attend for free, and always paid for his ticket, just like every other average American. He attended Game #2 in Philadelphia on 10/9/1915, and threw out the first pitch of that game. Missed the opening game because of his duties in regard to WW I.

And to make this relevant to this thread, he attended the WS game with his then fiancé, Mrs. Edith Galt, a widow whom he then married in December, 2015.

I am Bryan, not that you were asking a general question (or were you?). Not in the 'formal' sense, but Mom still is, and Dad was until he passed in March (he had an eye for the hawk varieties) ... so I sort of absorbed some of it growing up...

and since we're Open Kimono on Chief's, here's mine...
