Default 1980-87 Baseball Immortals print variation

I found this variation with Lou Boudreau's #115 card....one copy has his name as 'Lord" and the other is correct as Lou. On the back, I noticed that both copies show "1st Printing".

I purchased a large group of cards from this set...some of the cards from throughout the group have the notation "1st Printing" on the back while other cards do not. On the front of the cards with "1st Printing" on the back, they all have a lighter colored flag, image border and box at the top (as with the "Lou" card) while the cards that do not have the 1st print cards notation all have a darker back ground in these same areas (as with the "Lord" version).

Was the "Lord" version part of a later printing based on the darker colored flag, image border and box or was this error actually corrected in the "1st printing"?

The entire first series of this issue has 3 variations for each card.

1. First printing on back
2. First printing on back w/ MLB logo
3. No first printing on back.

The Lord Boudreau card was apparently corrected between issues. You are showing the first 2 variations listed above. Notice the MLB logo to left of First Printing.

Thank you Randy, I appreciate it...a fourth back variation I found is a version with the MLB logo and no "1st printing" on the back. This variation I saw only on the 1987 inductee cards, but still maybe on the backs of others.

Do you know which year that the mlb logo appeared on the back of these cards?

Larry, I don't think any of the cards come with all 4 variations, all though I only collected the Cardinals in this set. In the higher numbers, I show the following variations:

174 * Gibson Bob MLB logo back
174 * Gibson Bob No MLB logo back
194 * Slaughter Enos MLB logo back
194 * Slaughter Enos no MLB logo back
195 * Brock Lou MLB logo blue/red border
195 * Brock Lou No MLB logo green/yellowborder

Thank Randy for the heads up on the Brock, now I will have to chase down a copy with the green/yellow border.

Anything SSPC/TCMA fascinates me so I checked the COMC Data Base this AM

I've noticed a couple of things:

As of today: We have ZERO NON 1st Printing Cards of cards 174-189

And while we don't have enough examples of every cards it appears the color variations Randy refers to are only for cards 190 and up.

I'd love to get more information and if 174-189 don't exist without the 1st printing notation, we'll eliminate them from the DB and put an internal note.

And if I can verify the rest of the cards from 190 and up with color variations -- those would have to be sent in, we can do that

Rich
