Yeah I am also confused. I didn’t notice that. I was about to put in an offer below $250 but saw that it was advertised as 3/4 size? But it looks full.

It's extremely rare. He only had one and had to cancel all the other transactions after the fact. I'm surprised he didn't just list it as an auction. I have only seen one other before.

On another note there are some on eBay with GREAT EYE APPEAL! that I remember seeing in a private auction recently. One of the big ones but I forget which. There were six or seven pennants glued to a white board. I see the white board has been broken up into smaller boards ... he accurately describes it which is good.

Yeah...It looks full sized to me for sure and I have the Vikings version which is also full. Weird listing for a very cool pennant unfortunately. I'd be very bummed if I got it for $250 only to have it cancelled shortly thereafter...and I'm primarily a football guy.

So he had only one, but somehow sold six. I'm still confused as to how that even happens, but sorry it happened to you. It sucks when true collectors get jobbed like that.

Wow, that's a great pennant as is the Vikings one. Maybe a draft day trade is in order.

I added some more 1970's pennants to my album. Nothing good but a Net54 member reached out to me to see if I was interested in a pennant I already have. I also have a ton with the "Big G, Big S" logo that started in 1983, like the last (misspelled one) in the album.

Marc - am I missing any from my latest additions?

P.S. I love those Grain Belt pennants! Love anything with advertising added (e.g. Pirates w/Holsum Bread, Reds w/Burger beer, etc.).

I’m sure I could blow right by something with a subtle font/color variation.

Pennants and my 800+ pins can test your powers of recall.

Default Mysteries, mysteries

Just when I thought things were starting to make sense.

I thought all these WS pennants were early Trench. But I'm having a tough time seeing how the two '49s are made by the same company. The Dodgers scroll surely is. The WS is a tick smaller/narrower, different texture, and the number font very different while Trench's digits are very distinct. Also the WS has blue tassels; Trench's almost always has same color as spine.

Now the '49 WS pennant seems to be from same maker as '55 and '57 as they share general design. The Ebbets graphic is slightly different but NYY Gate 6 on the later ones is same as on the team pennant (which has all indications of Trench). That's what i thought connected them all.

These are great, Rob. I'm still after the elusive '69 cloth ASCO Giants. Same as this one in your pic which I am posting here. I've only seen one - had it in my possession as I bought a lot, but it was so beat up (and not described as such) that I returned it. I've *never* seen the A's in cloth.

But then I have *only* seen the Senators in cloth - not felt - so maybe they used cloth for a few years with the same '69 stamp. But then they also made some with a 1970 stamp ...

(Okay, it's a snow day, fellas ... no school ... what else am I supposed to be doing?)

EDIT: I do have the A’s in 1969 felt ... but the Giants is hard in both materials with that dated MLB stamp.

Truly astonishing collection, Rob, especially considering they didn't start until 1958! The Giants should make a display at the ballpark, that would be a must-see for their fans. Which Senators pennant are you referencing, Greg, do you have a picture?

The best Mariners pennant to exist, and a real toughie. I have it with yellow felt and blue graphics (the reverse of yours).

This is from that obscure series which includes the Padres, Rangers, Brewers and Mariners. The very last series of pennants to feature original artistry and no MLB logo.

Great M's pennant.... Hang on to that one!

It's been a bumper week for pennant deliveries here. I picked these two up in a lot of Phillies Pennants. The auction listing had these 2 amongst a number of 70s/80s pennants.

The artwork and font on both pennants looks the same. Are they made by Trench?

Also, is it even worth trying to clean the spine?

Cool pennants Gary. Top one is very rare with tassels. I wouldn’t touch the spine. A natural creaming to the white gives it a good look IMO. Also the red underneath may run into it if wet. I think they are very nice as-is.

As for who made it ... mystery. Not Trench, but another big maker that we have yet to identify.

Hank, here’s a pic of it along with my 6 footer, both stamped 1969. I had another one with some wear but just acquired a mint version along with two Senators repros and a beat up ‘69 Trench. This was the only one in the lot I wanted, incredibly hard to find it without cracking in the logo which is VERY thick paint.

ASCO also made a cool 1970 Senators picture pennant which I haven’t seen in quite awhile.

Thanks Greg. I'll leave it alone. Any idea who made them? I thought it might be Trench because AdFlag didn't use tassels.

I forgot to answer that and just revised. Don’t think Trench. Here’s the 1950 Trench Phillies. It has been suggested that it is Norsid (sp?) out of Yonkers or NYC but I have my doubts, I’ll make that case after dinner.

You might run a “bleach pen” over the spines....

That is a tough Senators pennant, and the 6-footer is just off the charts. The 1970 picture pennant used to be fairly common, I guess everything is getting collected up. The other Senators picture pennant from 1964 is much tougher than the 1970, by a factor of three or four to one, I would guess, but it has been a while since I've seen either one.

That could work; I would add, if you do that, run a dowel or a vinyl strip through the opening to protect the red underneath ... but even if you get near the stitches it could soak through. Very very careful!

Here’s a Norsid pennant; this has a NYY sister version. Very very different than our mystery sliding runner pennants. These have tassels and a unique very thin spine, almost no room for a dowel.

The bleach comes out more like a gel than a liquid. It’s pretty “controllable.”

Thanks. To me, the spine and the graphic in my Phillies pennant looks similar to Mark's NY Giants pennant from post #4703 and the Phillies pennant in your post (#4712).

Same maker?

I’m pretty confident saying those are all the same maker as yours. Now if we could only figure out who it is!

Great article Kyle, and an even better result! They all look amazing and are so precise in their level of detail. That had to be a difficult project to take on, and I would imagine that particular pennant was more difficult to emulate than 95% out there.

I cannot even fathom having the patience to create something like that... Fantastic job!

Thank you to [baseball] Rob G. for your help in making this.
It’s a nice looking pennant Kyle. Is it the same size as the original? And how is your label affixed? Just wondering how long it will be before we see one on eBay being sold as original.

A couple more of Kyle's artwork. Even my wife, who always comments "that's nice" to my new additions, thought the 1959 pennant (my favorite LA designed one) was "absolutely gorgeous". And I found the perfect spot for the Brooklyn World Champs pennant, right above the 1955 Schaefer Beer 3-d display. Both are truly works of art.

Thanks for these great additions Kyle!

Well, any pennant will look good hung beside that Schaefer Beer promo/sign!

Hey? Pennant guys?

:crickets:

So, what about that 173 pennant lot at Huggins and Scott?

H&S is the only auction running with some decent pennants. Even the Hunt monthly auctions have been a void. Have all the good ones really dried up? Even Lelands (who used to feature tons of good ones) is dry. Same for eBay, with the exception of a few goodies 3 weeks ago.

I am hoping/guessing LOTG will have some good ones in their upcoming March/April event. And perhaps a few in the next REA premier auction?

How can we ever get this thread to 5,000 replies and 1 Million views, without any new inventory? (Notice how I made this a separate post, haha)

Kyle, you'd better ramp up production on those K.R. Biebersheimer & Son Reproductions!

Gotta be some “break value” there but I, for one, do not particularly enjoy selling on ebay.

Ok, here are some that are on the way. Delayed by the big Texas Freeze.

A week or so ago, several San Jose (CA) baseball related pennants showed up on ebay, which is very uncommon. The seller also had this Seibu Lions pennant. In the early 1980s, the Seibu Lions sent players to San Jose to play in the California League, including Koji Akiyama in 1983, who is now a member of the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame.

I bought Lions pennant along with one of the earlier Bees pennants (an upgrade) and asked the seller if the Lions pennant was sold in San Jose. He told me that he did photographic work for the San Jose minor league team for many years and that the Lions players from the 1983 team gave him the pennant. I thought that was pretty cool. Hope they arrive soon.

Got this mini pennant string recently for under $100. Back when Ad Flag had better quality control. Decided to decorate the dungeon with a few of these strings ...

So were these strings sold at ballparks with the full size ones? As a kid I don’t remember seeing them, but maybe I was just so engrossed with the large ones I overlooked them.

Good question ... not sure. They appear to be Trench, though.

I suspect only Marc might care about this but I’ve never seen this MLB trademark before ... it’s a Trench pennant but the mark has an ASCO twist to it.
