Roger Clemens Foundation
I sent some 1987 Topps cards to the Roger Clemens foundation two years ago. They were charging $35 an auto at the time (very reasonable), I was going to send in another and just realized the new price is now $100+ for each card. I get that it is a charity but that's a huge jump!

You can buy many of his already signed items through his foundation for $100 or less.
Probably a real PIA for him to sign and return items with his schedule so he raised the prices to slow the flow. Last edited by bnorth; 07-13-2019 at 08:44 AM. |

I was unaware of the change in price and sent in an item merely a few days after it became effective. I am not aware of any advance warning of the price increase to the collecting community before it happened. I was frustrated several weeks later to receive my item back- paper clipped, no less- to a price sheet specifying the new prices along with my check.
If the idea of signing through the foundation was to raise money for the foundation, then it seems like a lose-lose situation to raise the price of an autograph by 400% overnight. I agree it was probably a lot of trouble for Roger to sign, but this degree of increase will probably slow this source of flow of free money for the foundation to a trickle. I won't be sending in any more items at $100 per pop and agree that much cheaper quality Clemens autographs can be found on eBay. The people this action hurts most are set collectors who seek to get certain cards signed for sets they collect, which they are unlikely to sell as it belongs with a set they are trying to complete. |

I agree 100%. I have one set card I was going to send in until this price hike. I could see him jumping to $50, but not this. Oh well.

From my experience dealing with the one and only employee of the Foundation, they could care less about our items and taking care of them. Not a pleasant person. Aldo, my opinion is that Roger doesn’t even know they raised the price and it was as a decision by the Foundation director (Roger’s mother in law).
