For me, it's the 1970 posters, because they are definitely a value-added item, and wouldn't be relegated to your cardboard box of cards like many of the other items would. They needed to be displayed. If I was a kid collecting back then, I would've said, "Mom, do you have any push pins? I gotta get these on my wall PDQ!" (And, of course, she would reply, "Did you check the junk drawer?")

I have a set of each one and am not really fond of any of them. But I will go with the 67 posters/Pin Ups

I really like the 1968 game cards. It is a cheap star packed set with good head shot images and a nice surface.

Based completely on nostalgia…61 Stamps. My friends and I loved getting something extra in our packs and we chased and traded these with enthusiasm. A few years ago I bought an album with a few stamps in it and I’ve managed to fill it up. We never had a checklist for the stamps back then so we had no way of knowing that the empty slots on the Senators and Angels pages could never be filled no matter how many packs of cards we bought.

I’ve put together many of the others since they are cheap and easy to find for the most part.

I never cared for the Embossed cards.

I have completed all but 3 of the sets listed and have singles of the others...for me the Coin sets are easily my favorites and the Embossed set is easily the worst.

They were their own issue, not inserts.

I voted 69 Deckle but could have easily picked the 68 Game cards...the 69s just look better in my opinion, they could pass for their own issue.

I have never owned a 65 Embossed...held plenty, just don't like them. For starters they rarely look like the player, just a terrible insert.

Default 65 Embossed

If you covered the names I do not think even the player's mother could have recognized him

It may just be the way they scan, but on many the details look like they have completely faded.

Thanks to a certain net54 member, I now have a full set of 1969 Deckle Edge, so I am pretty much in favor of them.

No mention of the 1961(?) dice game cards? They are rare as all get out, I know, but wow, way cool!

I like the 64/71 coins, a 71 is one of the oldest things I got new from a pack.

I think the comic booklet would have been great if it had been done a bit better.

James— there are numerous other 60s and 70s test or limited edition issues that are 100 % nicer that those on the list but the topic is inserts, not test or separate issues such as the 64 Giants, 64 and 67 Stand Ups, 66/67 Punch Outs, 68 3D, 69 Team Posters, 70 Cloth, 71 Rookie Artist Proofs.

How did those things wind up in collector's hands? Were they inserted into distributed packs, or were they handed out in some other way?

The 64 Giants were probably not retailed by Topps but were available by mail and other sources in large quantities . The 64 Stand Ups and 67 Punch Outs and 69 Posters were available in separate packs at retail. The rest were test issues with either very limited distribution ( 68 3Ds ) or just as proofs ( 61 Dice, 66 Punch Outs, 70 Cloth, 71 Artists Proofs)

You're right about the 61 Magic Rub Offs and 65 Transfers, but the 62 Baseball Bucks were their own issue.

I've seen a number of references on the interwebs to these these being inserted into packs of '62 Topps in addition to being issued on their own.

Any possibly truth to that?

I have a couple and would only pursue more if they were inserts, as it would fall into my "master set" mind-set.

I guess it's no surprise that the Game Cards and Deckle Edge are doing well since they are the most card-like inserts.

Oy, those 1970/71 game booklets were awful. I played them when I was a kid, but now. Eesch.

They came in 1962 FB wax packs but I don’t think they were included as an insert in baseball packs.
