Default One player, different names

Hank Aaron is of course Henry Aaron on a couple of issues.
Roberto Clemente was sometimes Roberto more often Bob.
Dick Allen also was Richie Allen, and at least two years he was Rich Allen. That's amazing, THREE names.

Who else?

324. Skewedonyms
The inconsistent spellings of certain players’ names (Jimmie/Jimmy Foxx, Lew/Lou Burdette, Satchel/Satchell Paige and Dick/Richie Allen, e.g.) used by the card companies.

Toward the end of his career, Willie Hernandez wanted to be addressed by his birthname, Guillermo Hernandez.

His 1989 & 1990 cards reflect this.

Zach, Zack, Zachary, Zachariah Wheat

He was listed as either Zach and Zack on most issues. Listed as Zachary on the back of CJs. Listed as Zachariah on his HoF postcard if not elsewhere.

Mo is a great guy. Met him at a company picnic we had for lunch one day when he just happened to be coming in to meet one of my former colleague's at a firm I used to work at. For a short time we were doing his accounting and tax work for his company, Mo Vaughn Trucking, out of Solon, Ohio I believe.

From a bit of googling
Pete Appleton, formerly Pete Jablonowski

Then there's extending into other sports

World B. Free / Lloyd Bernard Free
Ron Artest / Metta World Peace / Metta Sandiford-Artest

To state the obvious, Lew Alcindor --> Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. I think a few other NBA players have adopted Islamic names, right? There was a guy in the early '90s if I recall.

The 'incorrect' Chad Ochocinco. (But I maintain that it does say 8 and 5, so it's fine.)

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned SF Giants shortstop, the late Jose Uribe, who played under the name Jose Gonzalez at the beginning of his career (due to variations in Spanish nomenclature).

The first time he came up to bat against the Mets, after announcing his name change, Mets announcer Tim McCarver said, "he's literally the player to be named later."

Thats also how the entire Rojas family became the Alous. At least until the recently fired Mets manager reclaimed it.

One I forgot and then re-remembered, Freddie Patek/Fred Patek.
