I'm not really sure why you should be expected to buy cards yourself. My thinking is someone like, say, Lichtman, could buy some cards and then give them to you (and me, for that matter.) You know, spread the wealth.

Why you -- or anyone -- would be expected to build his or her own collection is beyond me (and many others, apparently).

I think Jeff is doing his patriotic duty today, but maybe tomorrow (or Monday), we could ask him about doing the right thing for others who haven't had the same chances to build their collections.

Here's hoping he and others will choose change.

It's real easy. Pick six numbers correctly for your local mega lottery and then you can participate in all of the auctions and be the pain the butt that I want to be in these auctions.

Hey, thanks for some good ideas. I think my favorite is where Jeff buys some stuff for me. I really buy second tier sports collecting stuff like golf, boxing and curling, but always manage to pick up some vintage baseball every season. I guess my real problem is lack of focus consistant with my budget (ok, what budget!).

Gotta take a look at that pirate thang, too..............

If you win the powerball for like 50 million or 100 million dollars, do you tell the auction houses to bid whatever it takes to win each lot in their auction or do you have to physically go thru the effort of bidding a huge amount (like $1 or $2 million) on each lot ?

I think it is entirely unfair that everyone is asking JeffL and Wonka to buy them some cards,...but it is humorous.

with all their success this year, I am half expecting to see Somali pirates cruise into the Sound alongside Greenwich and start firing onto shore, with an eye towards raiding the hedge funds...
