Default Fake Ticket on Ebay - be careful out there

SEPT 22 1927 TUNNEY VS JACK DEMPSEY WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONCHIP TICKET UNUSED

https://www.ebay.com/itm/225797595889

Call it a reprint. a fake, whatever it is NO GOOD. I also got it confirmed from one of our resident Boxing experts Adam (Exhibitman).

The ticket with the same seat #'s can be found online. The ticket can be found here:

https://americanhistory.si.edu/colle...t/nmah_1429283

Regardless be vary wary of that seller. He sold me a fake 1890's baseball calendar years ago. I did get my money back but wasn't a pleasant experience.

Funny thing is that guy is on Pawn Stars or was on Pawn Stars, he's called in some times for toys. Not the guy near the store, this guy is in Florida, some "expert".

Yup. Guessing it’s much more convincing looking online, than it will be once you have it in hand.

I seem to recall reading here some time ago that there are a lot of fraudulent boxing tickets. Am I dreaming that or is it generally recognized to be the case?

Sort of. Outright fakes are not that big of a thing because most vintage big fight tickets are pretty hard to reproduce convincingly due to the elaborate engraving. You can see it right away in hand, so it isn't a winning endeavor for scamsters. What is typically labeled a 'fake' is so labeled because it is sold as a regular issue ticket but is a phantom ticket for a fight that never happened (there is one Marciano ticket that shows up all the time), a fight that was changed and reticketed, a 'house' ticket meant for use at the venue for walk-ups that was never actually assigned or used, or a press/comp ticket.
