Default 2021 Collecting Goals

So with the new year beginning to get along, figured it would be great to check in with others on this: what are your goals for collecting this year? Is anyone coming close to finishing a PC? Want to round out a full back run?

Personally, I'm hoping to:
• Complete my T206 Providence Grays (Currently 2/8)
• Add a HOFer to my T206
• Pick up three spitballers
• Add one "achievable grail" back (Tolstoi, EPDG, American Beauty)

It's a bit ambitious for a grad student budget, but with patience and not being too picky about grade, I'm hopeful that I can achieve it.

Default Goals

Good post, Peanuts. Like the spitballer goal.

One of my goals is to get number grade slabs of the 59 Bazooka cards of Jim Brown and Hank Aaron. Always looking to add 1917 Standard Biscuit Hall of Famers.

I'd like to finish my '67 Topps set. Under 40 to go, all 7th Series. The carew RC is the top dog on my list.

As for Pre-War...nothing specific. I do plan to make up my mind on whether to sell my raw Matty Dark Cap or not. It's a debate I've had with myself for a long time. We'll see.

Like many of you I'm working on a lot of different sets. I don't know if I'll complete any of them in 2021, but here are five I'd really like to make some progress on:

• T207 Master (204/208)
• 1922 Exhibits (69/74)
• 1932 U.S. Caramel (28/31)
• R306 Butter Cream (18/30)
• 1939 Play Ball Sample Back (75/115)

Happy Collecting New Year everyone.

I’m hoping to pick up one of the three HOF left needed for my E103 set. Wagner, Cobb, or Lajoie.

This a good question. I've got quite a few goals for this year for both pre and post war. I think most are obtainable even if they are on a just out of undergrad budget.

For pre war my goals are

Pick up a pre 1900 card
Pick up a t202 Tinker, Evers, Chance
Start adding to my Richmond,VA pre war collection
Keep adding e96's

For post war my only 2 goals are

Keep adding to my 1950-60 Topps and Bowman run
Add some cards from non main stream sets (Redman, Red Heart, Berk Ross, Etc)

As well as pick up some playing days cards of Walter Johnson, Frank Chance, Joe DiMaggio, Clark Griffith and John McGraw

Great targets for everyone so far! I'm working on the T205 master. Always been my favorite.

Continue to work on my E121 Yankees/Giants 1921 WS collection, my 1910 T210 Jacksonville Florida subset, find the final 3 cards of my T205 Cubs front/ reverse set, and collect different S74 Cubs silks

Thanks for the thread, peanuts. In December I can check back in and see what I’ve accomplished. Finishing the basement, etc, so a moderate goal list:

Add about 40 T206s - currently at 169
Add Demmitt or O’Hara variations
T206 Lajoie

Can I do this between 3 and 4 k?

Another Lou Gehrig Wheaties back.

Or, add a Cobb B18 flannel, or photo, or something.

Or, another Tris Speaker piece.

Or, add another 1921 Exhibit Hall of Famer.

Or, another show piece of the Cincinnati Reds.

Or, I will buy smaller items, month by month, and irritate my wife.

1) Keep trucking along on my '33 Goudey HOFer set.

2) Same thing with '53 Bowman Color HOFers.

3) I won't finish #1 anytime soon but should finish #2 in which case I would move on to another set to work on picking up the HOFers only.

I'd love to add 1-2 more E107 HOFers to my collection in 2021, is that too much to ask?

Good luck to everyone in their card collecting pursuits this year.

I enjoyed the thread peanuts.

I have been able to knock out one goal and am hoping to get one or two more this year:

Oscar Stanage back runs - T207 is done. I would love to pick up a Tolstoi T206. I need Tolstoi and Broadleaf. I need Sovereign and Hindu for T-205.

Pick up a T200 for the set - Got DET-A thanks to Eric (iowadoc77). I just need BOS-N, NY-A, and STL-N to complete the set.

Knock out a couple of non-sport sets - N3 Arms and 50B Wildman are the closest.

What the heck. It won't happen but my goal is to get at least one of the two T220 Silver Borders that I'm missing for my set. If you know the set you know which ones those two are!

Confiscate all the poorly aged fakes and throw them in the ocean along with the people selling them. May as well round up the card doctors too and toss them in for good measure.

As I'm now down to needing less than 10 T206's to complete the set of 520, I'm hoping 2021 brings me:

2 of either Cobb Bat On in a Psa4, Demmitt or O'Hara in a PSA 2
Purchase of these in a 5 or 4:
-McGraw (Glove at Hip)
-Dahlen (Boston)
- Manning (Pitching)
- Mullin (Horizontal)
- Pelty (Vertical)
- Rossman

Collecting is like a box of chocolates for me. I never know what I am going to get. No goals, just happily collecting cards I like.
