Default Christy Mathewson Photo 1898

Super fun local pickup.

Christy Mathewson Photo from 1898
Keystone Academy Graduates
Sadly PSA would not encapsulate as it mounted, but it was a common practice in this era.

No comment on ID but that seems like a bogus reason not to encapsulate. PSA encapsulates N173 cabinets. What's the difference?

That is my thought too. The president of PSA/DNA even called me to explain since they can't see the back, they couldn't. I even sent them an exemplary copy in the Keystone Colleges archive, and the photographer on the mount is from Factoryville as well.

PSA encapsulates mounted photos all the time.

It clearly is authentic and original.

I’ll take drcy’s opinion over PSA’s, any day of the week.

I kept asking what else can I show them to prove it to them. I was like; I sent you the other known copy in a college archive. They stated it had to be unmounted. I was like, umm, ok, so ruin it? I even had a renowned photo expert Gary Albright check it out. Even though he doesn't authenticate photos, he said, "you have a matte collodion photograph which usually dates from 1895-1905. So, that fits. And the mount looks appropriate as well."

Sadly I got this at the end.

That's one of the coolest pickups that I've seen in a while! I wouldn't worry about what PSA says or does about that one. Congrats!

Really nice photo. With clear evidence of who it is, why do you care about a grade?

Thanks! I just mostly wanted a safe way to have it stored "encapsulated" I also was trying to get it appraised for insurance and kept getting asked for authentication.

No need for grade more so "encapsulation and authentication" services.

I do photo authentication and appraisals all the time. I can issue you a letter for free that you can use for authentication and appraisal for insurance.

Fabulous photo. If it were mine I'd adhere it via a floating matte, dog bites be damned, and put a frame on it and to heck with PSA. Since no one else has mentioned it I will assert that the two fellows at left are Matty's brothers Christopher and Henry. The other guys I have nary a clue.

(photo not mine)

Oval cabinet photograph of the Keystone Academy class of 1898 members Earl Manchester, Carl Tiffany, Jay Bond, Ernest Sterling, and Christy Mathewson.

Manchesters' Father was the photographer.

So much for my assertions. Sure fooled me.
