Default If You Collect Scorecards or Programs, Show 'em Here!

I did a search, and it doesn't appear that there have been any threads dedicated to scorecards or programs for some time; the few that popped up in the last 7 years or so stopped after 1 page. Let's see if there are still some proud scorecard and program collectors out there that have some items or new acquisitions to share with the group.

I'll start, and admittedly this first post is nothing to get too excited about unfortunately. But it is my latest acquisition and didn't set me back too much. It's a program from Jim Brown's last regular season game, in which he was ejected for fighting, but not before scoring his final career TD and wrapping up another rushing title. Thought there might be more pictures of Brown inside, but there was only one small pic and write-up. Still, it was a program I wanted to add to my collection for a couple of years...so here it is!

Default 1959 NFL Championship program

This was Ted Patterson's it is signed by almost everybody on both teams.. not just on the outside the inside is loaded.
Second Program Is Babe Ruth's HR 701. Written on cover is The most exciting game I ever Witnessed won in 9th inning by rhe fighting Tigers 12 to 11.
This 1897 NY Giants is very nice. Ny faced Clevland Spiders and Cy Young..
More to come.

Default Ruth & Cobb

Matty - those are beautiful.
Jonathan - I love period notes on old programs / scorecards
Jethrod - Brown's last TD is pretty darned cool, thank you for this thread, I love scored programs

Here's my (first) post to this (hopefully) long running thread :

Sept 11, 1928 Yankee Stadium

The Babe hits #49 of the year and #465 of his career, while knocking in what prove to be the game winning runs. In response, Mr. Mack send two members of the 3000 hit club to start a rally in the 9th, but alas, Cobb pops to short in his last career at bat, and Collins does the same (he had 15 more at bats).

I'm going to love this thread, apologies in advance for posting too much, but I have over 6000 potential submissions...

Spectacular start to this thread! I've seen a few Federal League programs in various threads in this forum but never had the chance to thumb through one myself. The Ruth 701 scorecard is amazing, and the scorecard for Cobb's last at bat---not many of those can possibly exist! I'm sure we'll see some "Holy Grail" items if the thread runs long enough!

Gary please share some other of your NA and early NL scorecards.

Doug Yes your scorecard from the previous day was HR 700 which exited the stadium and was picked up on the street. Yes Scorecards from games you attended are extra special.

Here you go, Jonathan. First year of National League, 1876. The color of each Chicago player's cap is listed below his name. The different cap colors allowed the players to be identified. There was no team identifier on the uniform and numbers were many years away.

1964 World Series program signed by each of the starting eight for the Cardinals plus Bob Gibson. I got the Ken Boyer and Bill White autographs at a department store opening when I was ten years old. They were the first signatures I ever received. Didn't get the others until forty years later.

I don't have anything nearly as vintage as what the majority of you have shared here, but I thought you might like to see this photo I took during the 2015 World Series, inside the merchandise tent outside Citi Field, showing a table with stacks of programs (both national and Mets cover variants), with a fan grabbing a copy as I got the shot.

We can only wonder if these will be memorabilia items that people will write about 50 or 100 years from now. Hope so!

Had these signed-- I was like a kid at a candy store!
Willie Mays signed for me,, Casey started to walk away with my fathers pen, but returned it when he realized his error, "" note where Rose signed on the score card on the left""--

I would never have guessed that Pete would have hit 3 homers in a game, but the evidence is there in the scorecard!

I just picked this program up. It was from a 1967 Charity Testimonial Banquet hosted in Eerie PA. First time I have come across one of these. The honorees were the MLB MVP Clemente and NFL MVP Bart Starr. Pirates manager Harry Walker was in attendance as well as was HOF member Garo Yepremian who had just completed his rookie season that saw him set an NFL record six Field Goals in a single game. Bob Prince was the MC. Each one of them signed this program. I found a photo of Clemente and Starr at the event. If you look at Starr’s left hand he is holding a copy of this program.

Whoops I stand corrected Garo is not in the NFL HOF. How embarrassing for both of us.

I started this thread with a program from Jim Brown's last regular season game, and I was happy to recently add to my collection a program from Jim Browns first regular season game. It's got a little writing on the Willard Mullin cover, but these programs don't surface too often, so condition wasn't all that important in this case. Interestingly, the photo of Brown in the program appears to be the exact same photo used for his 1958 Topps rookie card!

Here is my lone program. 1947 Ebbets Field Program with Philadelphia visiting. Recently added it for part of my Jackie display.

I believe I was able to pin-point the game on baseball reference. It was a little difficult to nail down because the last inning wasn't filled in so I couldn't use the final score. But I compared the pitchers marked and determined it to be this game.

Default Portland Maine Exibition game scorecard

I picked this recently a 1935 Charity game between the Pirates and the Braves. Played on June 21st 1935. Literally in the middle of the season. The Pirates played a few games in Boston and then both teams traveled up to play this game. Lots of Hall of Famers and I collect Baseball items from Maine.. Portland Maine to be specific. My Grandfather played breifly in the Eastern Leauge in 1928 a few games with Portland then a few with Worchester Mass. My holy grail item is a scorecard with him listed.

I have quite a few programs. However these are two of my favorites. Sept. 24, 1971, at Shea Stadium 35,936 fans watched the Pirates beat the Mets 3-2 in just under two hours. Clemente was the honoree that night in a pre-game ceremony at Shea Stadium. With his wife, three sons and parents were in attendance, he stood proudly alongside a contingent of Puerto Rican civic and community leaders from the New York area.

Vera Clemente said that of all the accolades he received during his baseball career, the heartwarming weekend, dubbed “Superstar — Roberto Clemente,” on Sept. 24-25, 1971, touched his heart.

These celebratory festivities included an opening reception at LaGuardia Airport and a press conference at the Hotel Commodore. Before the Pirates-Mets game Friday night, community organizers held a pre-game ceremony in Clemente’s honor. The following evening, a dinner/dance inside the Grand Ballroom of the defunct hotel capped the weekend.

Here is a program to the game and an ultra rare Superstar program that was made available for attendees of the diner/dance at the Commodore Hotel. I am aware of one other copy of the Superstar program. The first photo (courtesy of the Clemente Museum) is of the Ballroom event. The second is a Type 1 of Roberto and Vera taken at the game. It includes a ticket stub to the game and a pinback given to fans by WADO which was a Spanish language radio station that was a sponsor of the events.

Great stuff. I’ve seen those pinback buttons but didn’t know the story behind them. Thanks

Happy to revive this thread with my pick up of this 1915 Brooklyn vs Chicago Federal league program. The colors front and back are outstanding. And interior is filled with tons of ads and information. Looks like the game was June 28th and the Whales beat Brooklyn 10 to 5.. my favorite ad is for a Hires rootbeer contest. Promising a new 1915 Harley Davidson to whomever collects the most Hires bottle caps.

Wow. Beautiful.

It reminds me of the 1915 St Louis Globe-Democrat Color Sport supplements, maybe the where the G-D got their design idea?
