Picked up the 1950 and 1955, too. The St.Cloud Rox were the Northern League affiliate of the NY/SF Giants from 1946 until 1959. Got a few more to find...

Hi Brett,
A very difficult pin to come by..... Probably will only be found in an auction and doesnt come up very often. Be prepared to pay up for it... Good luck in your search...

I just picked up a big lot of mostly College football pins from the 70's for resale. The problem is the ribbons attached to the some of the pins smell musty from being stored. I'm hoping someone has a suggestion(s) for getting the odor out. I'd appreciate any advice.

Thanks in advance!!

Baking powder absorbs odor...so does vinegar.

Open a box of Arm and Hammer and put the box near the pins/ribbons. Cover the whole lot with a big box and leave it for 24 hours. If you don't have baking soda, a bowl of vinegar will achieve the same thing.

Not too thrilling to the general populace, but I am thrilled to finally get this one. For years, the Giants have sold a "special" $50 bobblehead with the proceeds benefiting their Junior Giants program. The ushers would wear these pins. In 2016, it was Matt Duffy. Problem was, Matt got traded before the bobblehead offer. This pin was tough to find. I can now delete four ebay searches, which makes me very happy!

Now, how am I gonna keep the symmetry of my case??

After thinking about for a few years, I finally bought one of those shadow display frames off eBay and stuffed it full of pins. Once I got going, it was hard to stop — the task took about four hours. I could only display about half my pins, so I had to make some tough choices. It came out looking better than I expected.

I tend to be obsessive. Today I finally obtained the last pin on the right. There were three different banners. Each banner came with a small and large pin-back The white banner version is the toughest. The smaller white was the final one I needed. It took me 6 years to find it. The World Series Vendors wore one as well with the added words congratulations Pirates and ZUM Zum. This one is the only one I’ve ever seen.

Damn, Mike! Impressive! I’ve seen ONE 1971 NL West Champions ribbon on ONE size (1.75”) Giants pin and, no, I don’t own it.

edit: then again, I guess Bob Robertson ruined the Giants’ chances to have more than one ribbon.

Thanks Scott and Rob! Rob The Mount Savage Strong Boy did his damage in that series for sure. I wish you hadn’t mentioned that Giants pinback and ribbon. I have the Orioles version and now I’m going to be looking for that damn Giant pinback.

Hey all!

Had a guy I’ve purchased cards from (online never met in person, but all the cards he had sent have been great), showed me this pin.

He said someone had told him it seems to be a cut out portion of a goudey Ruth and stuck in a homemade pin.

Do you all have an opinion on if this looks like it could have been a legit card? The “dots” almost seem too prominent to be a card?

Thoughts?IMG_7124.jpg

To me, the “dots” make it look like fabric. I have no idea if a cut up Goudey has any value but, again to me, that pin’s value would be very minimal.

Trying to put some new blood back in the pin section! Lets post up some nice ones. Picked up the pin on the left to compliment my one on the right. I believe it was issued for the 1907 or 1908 world series..... Hughie Jennings was the manager.... Very hard to find and was glad to get it...

Sometimes it’s best to lose, the first time around.

That’s what I’m telling myself about the 3 SF Giants pins my frenemy just “got me” on.

Not too thrilling, but I'm always happy to add another Giants PM-10. I just noticed almost none of my NY PM-10's have ribbons and/or charms while almost all of my SF pins do have those things. Is that to be expected, Al? Were they more prevalent, later?

Rob,
I dont know why but you are correct in that N.Y. style of pin they really dont seem to come with ribbons and trinkets ... But the S.F. ones always seem to come with that red white blue style of ribbon and metal bats and balls and gloves...Maybe when they went out to S.F. as a new team they wanted to boost sales... As we know just a formality as you can add them at anytime....

Yet, Marty’s Dodger and Yankees pins ^^^^ have plenty of ribbons and charms. Weird.

Default Blackie

Many thanks to close friend and net54 board member Chris Gamble, as I was able to add this great circa 1947-1948 PM10 pinback of Cincinnati Reds no-hit pitcher Ewell Blackwell.

On June 22, 1947, Blackwell became the closest pitcher to ever match Johnny Vander Meer's historic feat of pitching back-to-back no-hitters in 1947.
Vandy was on the top step with one out in the 9th inning, waiting to congratulate his friend and teammate.
Alas, it wasn't meant to be....
75 years have passed and no one has gotten even close.

Congratulations Scott!

As a Reds collector who likes pins, I almost never see any player pins of Reds from the 40s or 50s offered other than the relatively common PM-10 of Ted Kluszewski. Those things are crazy rare.

Blackie came the closest pitcher to duplicating Johnny Vander Meer's historic feat of pitching back-to-back no-hitters in 1947.
