Default Pricing question on T206

Posted By: Chris Diaz

Good evening,

I recently started collecting T206's. I have been using the pricing tools on T206museum.com, T206.org and also completed sales on Ebay. Are these fairly accurate "rules of thumb" to use, or is there anything that you guys use to gauge a card's worth?

Thanks,
Chris

Default Pricing question on T206

Vintagecardprices.com, which is linked to this board, reports real market transactions, primarily from ebay and auction sales. You need a membership but I believe some of the information may be available for free. If Bobby sees this thread he can give you more details.

Default Pricing question on T206

To me, T206Museum.com is generally higher than "market value". T206.org uses the same pricing as T206Museum.

A site I have started using is http://www.T-206.com, They keep track of eBay sales and you can also get charts of the latest sales. Another site is http://www.vintagecardprices.com/, however you have to be a member to get pricing. You can sign up and some of the free features though, like getting emails when cards are listed for sale on eBay.

Also, good luck on collecting "the monster". I recently started just collecting the T206 set only and am up to 8 cards. I have a lot of newer stuff (2004-2007) that I trying to sale or trade for vintage cards.

Using eBay prices is a fair guide.

Default Pricing question on T206

Posted By: Phil

I have been collecting T206s for almost 3 years now and find that the pricing on T206museum is pretty good. I have purchased the majority of my T206 collection through eBay and find that T206museum is good with a few exceptions. It is very good for mid-grade commons. It is a little low for Southern Leaguers and 3 big HOFs. The 3 HOFs that I find it way too low on are Walter Johnson, Christy Matthewson & Cy Young.

Default Pricing question on T206

I've had pretty good luck with the pricing on T206.org, but I just buy common backed cards so I'm not sure how it's pricing is as far as multipliers for rarer backs goes.

Default Pricing question on T206

Posted By: Scott L

Hi Chris

I collect T206's exclusively right now. I'm up to 374 PSA and SGC graded cards with a few more in transit to me. I collect SGC only cards now in the 10-50 range.

I agree with the poster who said to refer to ebay completed sales. The issue with sites like T206.org etc is the same issue that people have with SMR prices, they are not updated for fluctuations in the market. These days I have been been able to pick up 30's on ebay for a little more than $20 and 40's for less than $30. That's probably about $5 to $18 less than what say T206.org says their price should be.

If I can help in any other way please feel free to drop me an e-mail.

Best regards,

Scott

Default Pricing question on T206

Pick out half a dozen players you're interested in, then start bidding LOW on their cards. Watch the auctions, keep a list of the dates you got outbid, and the amount. After losing a few times, you'll get a 'ballpark' idea of what is a reasonable price for one.

With the exception of the Demmitt St. Louis and O'Hara St. Louis cards, and the big ones, Wagner, Plank, Magie, and Doyle, there are plenty of the other white border tobacco cards to go around. So don't fret if you get outbid, another one will be offered soon.
