SCD Announces its "Authenticating the Authenticators"

I see it SCD's most recent issue that they plan to do an "Authenticating the Authenticators" issue wherein these so-called 'experts' will be put on the perverbial hotseat. About a year ago I contacted Rocky Landsverk at SCD and informed him about the errors that Dave Bushing & Dan Knoll had made when they misdated the Mantle glove that Billy Crystal purchased for $240,000.00 from the 1999 Halper/Sotheby's auction. The glove was described as a circa 1960 glove. The glove is a real glove but was made in 1964 or 1965.

I also informed him of the fake DiMaggio glove that they authenticated. I also informed them of the fake Yogi Berra glove that they authenticated. These gloves also came from the same auction. Rocky Landsverk told me that he didn't think it was SCD's responsibility to inform the collecting public about items that may or may not be authentic. I told him that there was no gray area when it came to these fake gloves. It should be noted that when I contacted Rockey Landsverk back in December 2003 this was about the same time that SCD Authentic was being formed.

IMHO this "Authenticating the Authenticators" is SCD's effort to administer damage control.
