I agree. I own 2 and wouldn't mind another but nice ones have gone way up like everything else. That is a great example, damn the grade. Congrats

I struck out except for one small card, probably for resale.

"Oh, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright;

The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light,

And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout;

But there is no joy in Mudville—mighty Casey has struck out."

Congratulations to all the net54 members on their wins.

Now on to LOTG...

I was under bidder on 3 lots.

With the prices these days --- that's some sort of half-assed accomplishment ....

Some of the T206 Cobbs went cheap, I thought. PSA 4.5 Bat Off for $10,500.
Red portrait 4.5 for $9,600. There were alot of Cobb choices but some bargains in there.

I managed to pick up two cards, a 1952 Bowman Mantle that has pretty good centering and a T200 Fatima Cleveland team card. The T200 is an upgrade to a PSA 1.5 that I currently have in my collection.

Nada. Was only pursuing one card, a 56 Mantle, but it went into orbit and I gave up.

In my opinion price differential will vary greatly, even on the blue chip cards when factoring in centering, surface wear and overall eye appeal.

High eye appeal examples no matter the grade will always carry a premimum and sell for more than those examples which are just kinda blah!!

Thats my two cents on some of these from last night.

Yes, eye appeal, especially centering seems to be a big factor in price these days.

There were 2 Cobb's Bat On, both PSA 4. One was 65/35 ish right/left and went for 9,900. The other looked at least 55/45 or better and went for 14,400.

I was out shortly after I posted this - the lot of B18 blankets was my last one alive. I have a couple dozen and thought the lot of 41 would be a good way to grow my collection. I was about 50% under the winning bid so I wasn't even close.

Great piece! I was a player in the low 30’s and got crushed. Never thought it would sell for $50K all in.

Default well

was hoping for a slight upgrade on my N43 Ewing...... 6500+ for a "50" looked quite a bit out of range at around 2am so I chose to fight another day. It was much easier to just go for it last REA with a large consignment that did well - I happily overpaid for my N162 along with the people who overpaid for my stuff.

I was bidding on that Ruth type 2, but I lost steam. I did find the same photo (same stamp) on eBay for $20k obo. I think they list it as a 1916 photo. Not sure what year it was printed as this one from the 1930s.

Was hoping to win one or both of the E90-1 Wagners. Needless to say, I got neither. Underbidder on the batting and blown out of the water on the throwing. I'll probably just break up my set now.

I'm trying to pay my invoice to REA, but I never got emailed a copy of the invoice and my invoice in my website account just says this for payment types:

Quote:
Please make checks payable to Robert Edward Auctions
If I remember correctly, the emailed invoices showed a lot more options for accepted payments. Would someone please be able to post or PM me the other options listed on their invoices? I emailed REA but haven't heard back yet.

Thank you for any help you can provide!

I am happy, and slightly nauseous, with my pickup last night.

The most I have ever spent on a card before was about $400 and this came in at 5X that. But, as I mentioned on the Tell Me Some Good News thread, I landed a new job while still collecting severance checks from the previous one. I only needed 6 cards (including Clemente) to finish my 1955 set, so I decided to bite the bullet.

I actually managed to pick up a card for what I thought was a bargain price -- the 1920 Zeenut Sam Crawford.

Everything else I was interested in went for at least double what I was willing to pay.

Stayed up late to get my first Goudy Ruth. I also landed the Cobb(Bat Off). They stretched the budget, but very happy to have them. Anyone else in on these?

Auction night justification is always fun.

1. Do I really need a new kitchen remodel?
2. How much of a loan can I get on my 401K?
3. Do my kids really need to go to a 4 year overpriced college?
4. Argh, why don't these auction houses take credit cards!
5. How much can I really sell a kidney for?
6. No! Male prostitution is out of the question.
7. Why couldn't I have just inherited money?
And my favorite:
8: Jesus, did I really overpay for that Cobb/Ruth/Jackson? I'll find a way to make it work...

Too funny! This list sums it up. When you have the fever, all options are on the table and rational thinking goes out the window.

Thanks, Phil. Perez went for more than I was hoping (isn't that always the case), but I really wanted to finish off the set.

The Munson ($2040) went cheap compared to the Bench ($3720).

Tough numbers when they used to be 700-900 for NM 7s but that's the way it is right now.

The one item I was able to pick up. Really wanted the other one that I kept bidding on but eventually realized that sleep was more important at almost 2am.

Nice looking #144! I think you did well, especially considering the market these days. I was hoping the '33 Goudey Ruth #53 SGC 30 might slip through due to the mark on the back, that kind of card is normally right in my wheelhouse. But it went into the stratosphere. Guessing there's a decent chance that $24k may be the record for any 1933 Goudey graded 2 or less (not counting the pseudo-1933 Lajoie of course).

I won the PSA 5 1956 Koufax auto. Only one higher iirc . I decided to go one bid higher when I saw what the Greenberg Goudey auto was at. (Gonna be selling it as I have a high grade 56 Koufax and a later Topps auto in the PC.)

Also won one of the Polar Bear Admiral Schlei and the PSA 8 Dooin Herpolsheimer (which is the only 8 iirc?)

Thought all three were steals, but what I really wanted was the Maruzen Berg which became a last second bidding war. Now that I know it exists I'll have to nab one for my PC from someone or somewhere.
I also was high on the Swift Meats set, but dropped at 4100. I can imagine that PSA 10 Robinson getting 3k+

Thanks Chad! It is always nice to get some confirmation on a purchase like that. The #53 surprised me as well. I was in early on that one as well until it shot to the moon.

I did manage to get a 53 Topps Paige. Will never finish the set but this will make a nice addition.

That is a stunning Cobb for a “2”. Congratulations!

Great Card, I already have this one but still looking for any other crawford Zeenuts!

Josh, great pick-up. Not too shabby either!

Red- nice pickup. Those Scrappss are very cool

Octovia- LOL. Enjoy. I am happy to give you mind. In fact, I tried to opt out of getting a catalog and I could not figure out of I could. I would be happy if you got mine and then you would have two

Haha ... no worries at all ... I am sure the consignor is happy ... now I just need to find a well centered E90 Speaker. The hunt begins :-)

I won only one card, this N173 Dan Stearns. Been looking for it for many years. Was surprised it didn’t run a lot higher. (The back is totally fine.)
