I did see that post, and I could care less. However, thank you so much for pointing that out to all of us. The pennant is flipping cool! I could care less about that post. It's here to stay, and it's going to look great on my wall. Scott Senter

Default Spalding sign

Matt
Do you know anything about that sign? Why would they put a date on a sign like that? I wonder if Spalding store bats showed up in showrooms with yearly vintages. Do you think the image is of anyone in particular? A young Glenn Wright? or Traynor?

Default a nice pic of Lou

This is a type 1 original news photo from October 12, 1937 featuring New York Yankees great Lou Gehrig (far left) after making a put out at first base during the third game of the 1937 World Series. Also pictured is New York Giants player Jo-Jo Moore running through 1st base. This photo comes from the archives of Detroit News.

Default November Pickups

Went to a local antique show and an antique mall today and came away with some interesting items. The first is the back of a salesman's sample page with pictures of Jim Thorp, Ty Cobb, Hal Chase, Joe Wood, John McGraw, Tris Speaker and Herzog. I have included a shot of the sample page in which someone had glued some pictures of womens fashion of the day. The piece measures about 16x20 and is on heavy stock. I also have another one of these which pictures generic golfers.
The next item is a Goldsmith baseball catalog for spring and summer, 1911. It contains images of Wagner, Mathewson, Chase, Lajoie and others. The catalog contains mostly baseball supplies and equipment, but some football, track, and college pennants.
The third item is a pair of vintage football hip pads. I do not know the years these were used, but they appear to be old. The manufacturer's label is gone, but they appear high quality.
The last item is a 1951 Chicago Cubs Anniversary pennant. It is not in great shape, but it is the first one of these I've seen.

I knew I had seen this game before. There is one acually hanging in the Cracker Barrell Resturant down the road from me. I was looking at it the other day and kept saying to myself how familiar it was. I thought maybe a 30'-40's table top game or something. If its worth anything let me know because I will buy the one on the wall if its priced right. PG 3 #26post

I've seen Cubs anniversary pennants in the past, but not this variation. Congrats!

Default Gargling Oil Linament

Carlton,

What you have is a cut out from one the 5 Merchant's Gargling Oil Liniment cards from 1888. These are postcard sized cards on paper stock.
