What kind of value does a skinned Old Judge card have? Say like the three cards pictured below....

Thanks Leon. Anyone know if SGC will slab a skinned N172 as Authentic?

Never sent a skinned card in, but that seems beyond a reasonable threshhold and not gradable. But it's just a guess.

I spoke to SGC last year and they said they would slab as authentic my skinned OJ's. Hope that helps.

Jack- that surprises me. I guess they've reached the point that they will slab just about anything that is authentic.

Barry, that was the answer I got when I called them around the middle of last year. Maybe they've changed their stance since then?

If SGC agrees to slab skinned cards that would surprise me. I brought a skinned Old Judge card to the East Coast National where they were set up and asked them to slab it and they (specifically Dave Foreman) said no. It made no sense to me that they wouldn't slab it but Dave was insistent.

I can see why they wouldn't simply label the card as "authentic." In a holder, it might not be obvious that the card has been skinned, so someone could pass off the card as whole. But that's always the problem with the "authentic" designation. You never know if the card has been retouched, trimmed, or what. I think it would make perfect sense if they slabbed the card and labelled it "Authentic - Skinned," "Authentic - Trimmed," "Authentic - Recolored", or whatever the particular problem is.

I found my original email asking if they would slab my skinned OJs as authentic. It was in January 06 and the reply was from Scott Hersh. As I said, perhaps they changed their policy. It's too bad if they did, because slabbing would help protect an already thin card.

A lucite holder would protect it too, so I think the SGC label is what people are really after.

That makes no sense to me why they wouldn't slab a skinned N172 and simply label as such. I've seen cards in SGC holders with chunks out of them.

I've heard the same about skinned cards - they can be encapsulated with an AUTH label. What's odd is that if the card is rebacked it wont be encapsulated (by SGC).
