Default Travelers checks?

Do they even exist?

Does anyone collect them?

In the 70s and before they were such a huge part of international travel. I remember my mom and me going to the bank to get some. Had to sit down with some dude at his desk. Like a bank manager. Took a big important lock box out. Remember they smelled good, felt really cool, and just seemed so goddam important.

Where have you gone travelers check. Or was it cheque?

While cleaning up some stuff recently I came across one in my dresser, an American Express Travelers Cheque, probably from my honeymoon in 1986.

Just looked online now and apparently, just like my marriage, it is still good!

Travelers Cheques, it's just as good as money.

There is less of a need for them now then there was back then. With credit cards being accepted globally now, the need for the Cheques is not all that needed any longer.

I used to travel back to the East Coast to visit family and catch baseball every summer through the 70s and 80s. I’d buy travelers checks and recall them being put in a vinyl wallet thingy with a snap closure by the teller at my credit union. Hadn’t thought about them in a long time.

I bought some when traveling to Ireland about 10-12 years ago and when I finally found an open bank they said they hadn’t seen one in years. A relic of an earlier time.

Last time I seen travelers checks was in 2000. Two of the people i went to Amsterdam with took them. I thought they where out dated then.

I have never personally used one.

They were always American Express Travelers Cheques to give them that international sexy, and along with Pan-Am, exiting on the tarmac, smoking and being boisterously fun on airplanes, and leg room, they are a relic of a past when things were quite fun.
