Default What the heck is this Yogi Berra photo?

Check this out. Holding an Easton bat which seems possibly photoshopped?

Well, that is interesting. Definitely looks photoshopped. My internet searches came up mostly empty EXCEPT it looks like you can buy one here:

https://www.historyforsale.com/yogi-...ograph/dc49420

I can not vouch for that site...it just came up in a google image search.

Huh! Weird. What's also weird is that the sig on that one is identical to the one on mine, but placed differently. I mean it's definitely a repro signature.

Well I can tell you exactly what it is. I have the exact same one. It is from the 1980's. I wrote to him asking him to autograph two index cards. This is what I received in return instead of the cards. Scan to follow shortly.

I'd guess it's a 70's Easton bat from when Yogi was a Yankees coach. Maybe he was giving these away because he was a spokesperson of some sort for them.

I had many an Easton bat growing up playing Little League and Babe Ruth ball.

Huh! Interesting. So yeah, maybe he was a spokeperson for Easton in those days and would mail this back to kids who asked for his autograph. It's funny that the signature is in a different spot in all these examples. Maybe it was a stamp?

Yup, I'd guess it's a stamp.

Those are Yankees' mail response TI's from the 1970s into the 1980s. They were these small photos with the prestamped autos. I wrote to some players in 1976-77 and got them. When I last found a trove of them at a show a decade or so ago they were mostly $2 per on up to about $10 for Munson and Jackson.

What do you think would be a reasonable asking price nowadays?

p.s. If anybody is interested, let me know

Not a clue; I haven't even looked for them in years since I loaded up at that show. I basically completed my 1976-78 lineups and that was that for me.

Here's a Guidry that some dummy thinks is actually signed, for $9.99 plus shipping: 384805257222

And another MENSA member offering three for $41.99 as "signed". 265568576414

And another "signed" Guidry, this time at $19.99

This one is listed for $9.97

This one accurately says "facsimile" and is $11.95

Among the sold listings a group of 10 from 1981 with Jackson (2), Guidry and Winfield (2) went for $1.75 at auction plus $2.22 to ship.

So, not a lot of value there.

Love the Guidry with no 'stache. Loved it so much I went and bought it...no autograph or not.

Gotta be around 1976 or 1977 Spring training or so.

Gotta think it's some sort of team issue, or affiliated with that little souvenir shop that was next to Yankee Stadium for years.

No need to wonder, Dave, they are team-issued mail reply cards. I got some of these direct from the team in response to fan mail I sent out in the 1976-78 time frame.
