FS: SOLD 1918 Red Sox Team Signed Baseball Display w/ Babe Ruth and Type 1 Team Photo
Hello all,
I am considering selling the "Holy Grail" piece from my Red Sox collection. Its a 1918 Red Sox team signed Reach Official American League Baseball with (of course) Babe Ruth, as well as HOFers Ed Barrow and Harry Hooper. Now when was the last time you saw an affordable Ruth autographed ball from his Red Sox days? Admittedly, the signature is weak, on a side panel among others, before Babe was bigger than life and got the sweet spot to himself! But its there, probably a 2 or a 3 out of 10. The photos do not do justice to the signature. It is obviously weak but clearly legible. It has 2 LOAs, one from PSA/DNA from 2001 and another from JSA Authentication from 2014. I managed to win the included 1918 Red Sox type 1 team photo in June from RMY and it dawned on me this would make an unbelievable display. So I found a display case custom made to display a ball and photo. The glass for the display has museum quality UV protection. As for the photo itself, it has some creasing and edge tears but displays beautifully and measures 5.5 x 8. The photographer is W.W. Somers and is stamped as such on the reverse. The Babe is prominently shown in the middle row, can't miss him. It's proffesionally matted in the display. Again, a very rare type 1 Ruth photo from Red Sox era, not something you see often. Finally, I also acquired a 1918 Red Sox grandstand ticket stub. It would probably look great after being encapsulated and placed right below the ball in the display. But I haven't gotten that far yet. Bottom line, this is an incredible display piece that could be a centerpiece for any Red Sox or Ruth collector. I am thinking about listing it on ebay for sold but have become so disappointed with how they do business I would love to make a deal with a fellow collector here for $sold through a no fee payment. I don't post frequently but that's due to limited time for hobbies. I am more than happy to supply references from others on the board, including some with whom I have done large transactions. I am also planning to attend the Shriners Sportscard show in the Boston area on the first weekend of November if someone is interested in an in-person transaction. I would consider selling the ball and/or stub separately if the offer is fair (I'd actually love to keep the photo if you are not interested in it). Feel free to PM with questions but please realize I am in no hurry to move this wonderful piece. Last edited by piecesofthegame; 10-05-2015 at 06:14 PM. Reason: Sold |

Holy crap!!! I am speechless. Just an amazing piece.
You may want to move this over to the autograph BST section as the ball makes up the vast majority of the value with this piece. Again. Wow. Tom C |
