Seller reputation, yahoo auctions & Cobb, Ruth, Mantle
Posted By: Brian
I've only purchased one or two items from yahoo auctions over the past couple years, but there are a couple items that recently caught my attention. There is a seller with handle "dacommish19" who's selling a Crackjack Cobb PSA 5, 52 Topps Mantle PSA 7 and 33 Goudey Ruth PSA 8. The seller has two positive feedbacks. |

Ya know what's even more interesting, with a little more research I found the CrackJack Cobb, sure enough...same image of the card sold on the REA auction! Either the image is stolen or the buyer had remorse for the $5000 card they won on REA. |

I can't believe someone would even consider sending this guy money!!! Someone with cards like that would not put them on Yahoo for 5% or less of their value. C'mon!! |

I dont trust Yahoo! auctions for legit dealings. Too many scams there. However, I do search thier auctions from time to time, & saw that Ruth yesterday. Just out of curiosity, I asked the seller if I could pay for the card in person, since I live not too far from Houston. No response at this time. I agree with Ben, that the chances of this being a scam is huge. I wouldn't trust Yahoo! or PayPal when using buyer protection plans, but I've never had to deal with that issue. I just think knowing who your buying from means so much in this hobby. |

People just love using those REA images. Seems to be a great place to check when seeing stuff like this. |

I think I watch the Yahoo! auctions purely for the entertainment value, but it still makes me a little mad. |

Its rules are arbitrary and idiotic. I got burned on a deal where the seller sent me two fake OJ cards. Modern laser copies on cardboard with shellack. Paypal's response: you got something, so no protection. If the seller did not obtain proof of delivery, woe to the seller--paypal will steal the $$ from his bank account on the word of the buyer. If the seller can prove a package was delivered, however, paypal washes its hands of the matter, even if the package contains something totally different than what you bought. Any time I use paypal to buy an item worth more than a few bucks I use a credit card to pay. That way, if the item is bogus or misrepresented I can make a claim with the CC company instead. |

Brian - yes, Paypal can go into your account and pull out money. However, by the time any claims are filed and the scammer does the runaround, all of the funds in both his Paypal and bank accounts are usually long gone. |

if a dispute arises they ask the seller to have sufficent funds in their paypal acct.to cover the transaction amount. if you don't i do not know if they charge your credit card or if they can take from bank acct., as i always made sure i had the amount in question in my paypal acct. edited to add--- i have lost one dispute as a seller, when the buyer claimed condition not as stated even though pic and discription was as advertized. |

Just a clarification on the above - yes, Paypal can pull money out of your Bank account, not just your Paypal account. It is in their fine print users agreement that you sign when you open a Paypal account. |

Bogus auctions really irritate me, whether Yahoo or Ebay. Money should never be more important than integity. I hate seeing people ripped off, fortunately I have never been one of them. Usually I'm very careful and do my homework. |

I recall in previous threads that its takes three complaints to get yahoo's attention and cancel an auction. It's clear to me this guy does not have two premium cards from the Matronet auction and one from REA. |

Yes the scammers get under my skin too. Sorry, but I dont think I can add to the Yahoo! neighborhood watch for this person, because I have no Yahoo! auctions feedback. Just to be a pain in the arse, I submitted a question to the seller asking "why would you win this PSA 8 Ruth on the recent Mastronet auction for $38000.00, & then sell it on Yahoo with such a low opening bid"? My question was removed, & now I'm black-listed by the seller from asking anymore questions! We all know it's a scam, but it still stinks when you see this stuff. I would love to see a thread on this board dedicated to identifying forgeries, reprints, & scams. |
