Just picked up this Johnny Evers photo and was wondering if there are specific ways to tell whether it is first generation or not? Plus what the value on one would be

Looks to be a first generation photo. Absent of anything on the back it is just a matter of looking at the age of the paper and the composition of the item on the front (photo process, etc). Looks absolutely fine to me based on the black portion on the top as well as the paper composition around the mild creases.

Bad news I guess is that photos of this type dont command a whole lot of money. Even though it is a baseball pose, it is more like a snapshot and not the most attractive pose in the world and it appears to be either a post career or late career pose. I would guess your photo has a value in the $35-$75 range.

If you have proof that it was owned by Evers at one time like a letter from the family or something to that effect, it would help in the resale department. I dont know that it would increase the value, but it would make any doubt as to whether it is indeed Evers in the photo a non-factor. If you could pinpoint the date or the event through your source it would increase the value a bit.
