Quick calculations: we may get our millionth view in two years and our 5000th post this year....assuming there’s still pennants to be had and mysteries to be solved.

Default Premium pennants

Sorry, can't help with either of those teams, but I do have the Yankees World Champions version. Don't see those premiums around much.

Default Oversize pennants

I have seen larger pennants before and if I remember correctly they were very much like the ones you showed from 1969. I believe I remember someone saying they were used for display at the stadium. Here, it would have been Metropolitan Stadium for the Twins. Problem is I don't remember them having any grommets or being quite that large (6tf). They were definitely significantly larger than your normal 29 inch pennant and identical in every other feature. Oversize pennants like that are extremely rare as you know. The only one I have in my collection is this cloth 35 plus inch Yankees "Home of Champions" pennant. I've never seen another like this either which is why I picked it up despite the condition issues.

That’s a cool pennant. I don’t recall any other team with “Souvenir of ...” pennants but the Yankees.

These 1969s are really interesting, the felt resembles that of the old ones from the 1910s, has the feel of an army blanket. The printing is rubberized so that it doesn’t crack. You can fold it in half without risking damage. But just like the reg size from this series, the spine is cloth and does fade. ... Speaking of which I did find Giants and Mets in reg size cloth so I am almost finished the set.

I would think after a million views we get our own spin-off ... like Joanie Loves Chachi spun off from Happy Days ..

Interesting acquisition ... near mint Phillies pennant, no sign of tassels, not a single loose thread ... but it’s a Keezer. It’s ugly, but pretty rare, I’ve never seen this before.

Greg, seems to be same series as my LA Dodgers one, same stamp on the back. Interestingly, mine has tassels.

Rare and rarer!

Wish there was a Reds version, but am pretty sure it doesn’t exist. Does anyone have another team from this series? Can’t recall seeing any others in that unique style!

I think that these are from the same series as my Giants pennant (which has a Keezer stamp), and this Astros pennant that I don't own. I was wondering if they were from a line that Keezer was going to produce (or produce more), but then did not due to MLB copyright etc. When I bought this Giants pennant, the seller also had a Royals pennant (and one other... I forget which), which would point to 1969 or so.

Found these photos online. Are they part of this series?

Yep they are all Keezer, it’s the Royals pennant that looks like it is from the same general series. I have about 25 Keezers, two of them have no tassels. Here’s the other ...

Now this is very interesting for many reasons ... I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Seattle Pilots pennant that resembles the Royals. There are a couple red Trench Pilots versions (Seattle in block and script), ASCO white Pilots, and what seems to be an Ad Flag. Don’t know of another.

On that note I hope you all enjoy the holidays. This thread has been a lot of fun, it really helps me enjoy collecting. It has been especially important helping me cope with a lot of down (and often depressing) time. Be safe and be well everyone!

The Royals pennant posted by MK is the one that sold at the same time as my Giants pennant. I was tempted to buy it because I figured it was rare, but the seller had these for $150 each. All three went within an hour.

Merry Christmas everyone...

Agree with Greg, that the Royals, Astros and Giants are in that specific group (with the Dodgers and Phillies). The others are Keezers, but a different (and I believe earlier) group. Great stuff regardless... and I think I recall seeing a Tigers from the “mystery group” as well.

Yup.... Here's the Tigers version from the 1969 Keezer "mystery group". So does that make six so far?

Default Pennant Album

Merry Christmas, everybody! I finally had a day off and I used my time wisely...I took pictures and arranged my pennant album My collection is small compared to many here, but regardless, I wanted to share.

Below is the link. I may make the album private in the future, so please message me your email address so if I do, I'll be sure to invite you to it so you still have access. Also, I know there are a few albums shared previously - is it possible to resurrect these links?

Happy Holidays!

UPDATE - SHOOT ME YOUR EMAIL AND I WILL SEND YOU A LINK

Erik ... very very nice! Love the whole ensemble, especially the All Star pennants and the insanely rare spring training pennants. And of course you have the best AFLs!

Found three more of the "1969" Keezer pennants searching via google. It was kind of funny that two of the three images were from this thread.

I forgot I had this unsightly Yankees Keezer, probably a little before 1969 but with a similar distorted Yankee logo.

On the left is my favorite series from 1951-52, presumably WGN. Been trying to complete the set for many years, just need the Cardinals. Then I saw this online. Anyone else seen this before? Anyone own it??? I suspect there are other versions of other teams ...

Never seen that one. I could've sworn this same mystery maker made a second version for the Browns? Perhaps that's it on your wall?

Erik that is great. This is what gives me the idea of a pennant “checklist”, with pictures grouped not by team but by series. There are actually quite a few that can be easily grouped - like these. Also the WGNs a few posts above. Trench pennants can be grouped by their trademark.

Here’s an example that I found online because I recently picked up the Pirates pennant. All of these were sold as a group in an old auction ... it certainly suggests that these are from the same manufacturer at about the same time. The Bees pennant dates this to 1936-1940. I suspect that these are early Trench but that’s just a guess.

Oh and I’m pretty convinced these are WGN. The specialized Cubs/White Sox versions and the 1950 ASG pennant (Comiskey) with same graphics strongly suggest the Chicago company.

Here is another series, maybe. Would be curious to know if these exist for other teams. Let's call it the Busch stadium series. You know, where Wrigley Field, Candlestick Park, and maybe others? look just like Busch stadium? The Giants pennant is pretty rare, so I suspect that others may be rare as well.

The Cardinals pennant may not be from the same series, but it is probably by the same maker, as the Cubs and Cardinals pennants share the same stadium image. Or maybe the St. Louis stadium image from this pennant was just the inspiration for the great mind that came up with this Busch series?

I also just noticed that the Giants and Cubs pennants have the same funny cut in the top left corner.

Any St. Louis pennant makers out there?

I suspect that these are early Trench but that’s just a guess.

I know there are avid team and sport-specific collectors here, but I do like the idea of ‘sets’ and knowing what comprises of a complete set/pennant run.

I'm ready for Greg to start a website, maybe similar to what Fballguy has for football pennants, grouping pennants by maker/series.

Should be pretty easy. He can just take a picture of each wall in his house.

I recently picked up another 1934 Tiger cane pennant in a bulk deal I recently did. I've been on the fence about what to do with it since I already own one and see no point having two of them. I figured I'd offer it up here before moving on to an auction house. The pennant is made from a silk like material so it can be rolled up and stored in the tube. Once its stored it doubles as a cane. Pennant has some spots from being stored inside the metal tube but nothing major. Overall the pennant is in good shape and displays nice. The most recent sale was this past summer through Hunt Auctions and their pennant sold for $1200. I'm asking $850 OBO. I have more pictures if someone is interested so just shoot me a message.

^^^ I’d love to see you group those in a Google album because I sometimes don’t know what the hell you guys are talking about!

Edit: and once I knew what you were talking about, I might be able to add some. Others might help, as well.

I agree that some type of webpage or Google photos album would be cool, if you had time to make it. I'm sure that it would be a lot of work.

Not distract from the series discussion... but what in the heck is going on with this pennant? I know we have some Dodgers collectors on here. We have a combo of Dodgers and Chinatown and Yankee Stadium? A bit of fall harvest? It looks half accident and half purposeful.

I’m a “Giants only” guy, but that is a very cool piece. I didn’t expect it to be that big.

Kyle and I have puzzled over this one, especially why they picked these 4 things to use as landmarks for LA - Chinatown, Grauman's Chinese Theatre, Olvera St.(known as “the birthplace of Los Angeles,” it is a Mexican Marketplace that recreates a romantic “Old Los Angeles” with a block-long narrow, tree-shaded, brick-lined market with old structures, painted stalls, street vendors, cafes, restaurants and gift shops), and ,uh, tropical fruit?. Guess they couldn't come up with another landmark in 1963. Unless you lived here, you probably wouldn't recognize any of these, except maybe the fruit.

But also, it doesn't help that they pasted the team photo over much of the artwork instead of inserting it in a cut-out window like most other photo pennants. The photo is simply too large for the cut-out. There is an outline for a photo insert on the pennant, but they never cut it out.

Here's a better picture of the "artwork".

C'mon Marc, what fan doesn't want to take home a Los Angeles Dodgers/Chinatown/Olvera Street/Grauman's Theater/assorted citrus souvenir pennant to remember their trip to New York's Yankee Stadium??

It looks to me like the maker (probably Trench) tried to cut corners in their haste to make this pennant in time for sale at that year's world series. Here, they saved time by re-purposing some "scenes of Los Angeles" artwork previously used on Los Angeles travel pennants for use on this baseball pennant.

I wonder why they didn't make a "Dodger Stadium" version with a Yankee team photo beside a Statue of Liberty on it??

I swear I've seen a similar Dodgers pennant with the LaBrea Tar Pits on it. Olvera Street and Graumann's Chinese were also depicted on that one. Been a long time, but I know I've seen it.

I remember thinking, "How could the La Brea Tar Pits even make the cut for a pennant like that?"

These days, when they are in LA, every TV show and televised sporting event shows the Santa Monica Pier with its ferris wheel. But in 1963, if you put that on a pennant, everyone would have thought "Hey, Coney Island".

How do you depict a "tar pit"? That can't be easy, unless you have the pennant release an odiferous smell.
