Nice one, always fun to add a Ruth.

One problem with set collecting is paying up for players I don't know. I won this JB Ray. I learned by looking it up that there was an Irv Burton "Stubby" Ray on Boston in 1889. A utility infielder. If I ever get tired of it, it will probably be tougher to move than a Babe Ruth.

Yup, I was an early bidding on this, and quickly dropped out with the rising price tag. A very rare, obscure, and tough to find set for sure. You actually working to complete the set? If so, good luck.

Was surprised with what I thought ended up being a very strong price for this card, especially with it being of such an obscure and relatively unknown player as you noted, along with the fact it is altered in some manner. Still, I think it is a very nice, complete example of a card from a truly tough and rare set. Congrats on a super pickup.

I'm right there with you, at least yours looks like a complete card. I got the T222 lot primarily for the Henry (top row, 2nd from right).

I saw a video on this. I think it came from an antique store in Wilmington Delaware. If I remember correctly, someone just left it for the owner and she kept it for years and is now letting it go.

Here are my pickups

Some say the Rittenhouse is a little to obscure or does not have the eye appeal but I like the card and the look

Two wins for me - a beauty of an E95 Plank, cut from a sheet and a 1942 photo of Ted Williams and Joe Dimaggio. There were some really strong prices for photos last night IMO.

Great stuff as usual everyone.

If anyone picked up the 1937 O-Pee-Chee near set I'd be very interested in a couple of them if available.

Thanks Dave - sorry there weren't two of them so we both could have gotten one! That small group of E95s had some amazing eye appeal.

You got some great pieces as well though - really like the autograph displays.

I've always wanted to pick up a few Heilbroner file cards, now I have a few hundred of them, hahahaha.

I was hoping the Dodgers season passes would be in my future, but they went way too high for my taste.

Since I already had it in PSA 5, it was obviously time to upgrade to this PSA 6. And for that matter, I got it for a lot less than I was expecting, particularly since a PSA 7 went for $15.6K in November 2021 (I was the underbidder on that one).

Also, a few observations about a couple of prices that caught my eye:

This 311 Mantle in PSA 7, albeit with an early cert, sketchy centering, and a generous tilt, went for "just" $336K. But with one of those fancy stickers on it! It might only grade at PSA 5 these days, but who wouldn't want to buy this holder?

https://bid.robertedwardauctions.com...?itemid=125688

This 54T Mays in PSA 9 went for a lot less than the last one, with the last one going for an extra nutty $84K in April 2022, with this one all the way down at $50.4K, which is about where they were in 2021.

Happy to pick these up, the D310 is mesmerizing, you just don't see them in this condition and the D304 is a nice clean example for the type collection.

Congrats to all!

Did anyone win Lot #345, T210 Series Four? If so, and you are willing, I need the following:

Benney
Bonno
Davis
Donnell
Dougherty
Halterman
Hunter
Orcutt

Please let me know if you are willing to part with any of these.

Thank you,
Mike

25K on Ruth
4k+ on Hornsby
7K+ on Cobb
9k+ on the 15card set
2k+ on Wajo

I said this on another post, but I am truly amazed at the amount of money being spent in auctions. There are rich bidders out there and they want the cards no matter what the price is.

Definitely still plenty of froth out there. Not always and everywhere, but when a couple of collectors decide they have to have it at auction, and both refuse to back down, then the sky's the limit.

By the look of these auctions I’m gonna say it again, it sure as hell doesn’t look like the US Economy is on the break of a recession.
