Default Foreign cards 2nd part

Lets make this a 2nd part of the other foreign cards thread. That one had a lot of scans. I like seeing these cards and have some new ones to share. Please be careful to make your scan sizes fairly small...(if "a" card is bigger than your computer screen it's probably a bit too large).....regards

I have gotten into most pre-1950 foreign type cards except the Japanese ones. I just don't have any clue about them so don't do them. As for a foreign coin, the reason I use a coin is so other folks can judge the size of the card. If the size of the coin isn't well known it would sort of defeat the purpose. Otherwise, nice suggestion.

Default Some that have not been shown

These 6 cards are from a middle eastern country ( I cannot remember which one). They are similar to 1970 Kellogs and each item depicts 2 players. The U.S. players are Reggie Jackson/Steve Carlton and Gerry Koosman/Sam McDowell. These are on thick card stock w/ blank backs and do not seem to be useable as stamps. R.J Hill Tris Speaker card from England and an unopened bundle of pre 1950 menko from Japan.

The vari-vue stamp/cards were issued by Ajman in the United Arab Emirates. Too bad they are not worth more, they are pretty cool.

Default Japanese baseball cards

Leon, if you ever have questions about Japanese baseball cards please drop me a line. There are more guides and reference material on Japanese cards than any other foreign baseball cards. Many collectors of Japanese cards don't read or write Japanese but do enjoy finding rare prewar cards of American and Japanese players to add to their collections. The best thing about collecting Japanese cards is finding new issues that date back 50 years or more.

Hi Robert, love that Paul Waner Japanese card. Are there others US players in that set?

Also if you know, can you tell me what the Japanese catalog number is on this 1949 era Dino Restelli card??? and maybe how many SF Seals players there are in it?

Default Japanese baseball cards

Hi Frank,
After 20 years of searching, Waner is currently the only American player known from this issue. However, I have seen a few Japanese players from this set.

Your Restelli / Dempsey card is from the 1949 JCM 45 set. The front and back of each card features two different players. There are currently 19 known cards in this set of which 13 cards feature Seals players on the front. There are many other sets from 1949 that feature Seals players as well.

Best regards,
Robert

Hi Phil - Even though it is in pathetic condition, I am thrilled to have a TG/Diaz Cigs card of WAJO. Actually, there is a Board member who has a much, much nicer example (at least he did when we communicated about a year ago) - perhaps he will show it.
Best,
Val

Hi, thanks Ralph,
Robert @ Prestigecollectibles is the Japanese card expert (he posted a couple times earlier in this thread), he actually just told me the Japanese Catalog number for the set above (JCM45) as I didnt know it yet, the front shows Dino Restelli and the back is Con Dempsey, its from 1949 like most of the other San Francisco Seals cards. There are many different types. Im far from an expert at these, but have owned at least 8-10 different kinds of Seals player cards from Japan, all from 1949.

I showed a couple of the Yakyu Shonen Magazine cards in the 1st thread on foreign cards, I put a couple more below

couple more example of SF PCL sets (no longer own these 2)

1949 JCM4 Roy Nicely

1949 JCM77 Dino Restelli (Robert, thanks for ID)

Yakyu Shonen (Youth Baseball) Magazine

1949 Yakyu Shonen JGA3 Bill Werle

1949 JBR13 Bill Melton

PS Robert, if you see a missed ID, please let me know, I dont read Japanese and dont have a catalog yet

@Gary- The Ruth card is from the 1934 JBR 48 series. Actually the postcard you have is mislabeled. It was part of a 40 card postcard set inserted into the August 1929 issue of Shonen Club magazine. See the image of the magazine.

I have this picture I saved from an auction a few years back of a 1949 Yakyu Shonen Magazine with the JBR13 cards inside.

Robert, thanks for the info. The postcard is labeled as 1928 in the 2010 edition of SCD's Standard Catalog, so if Mark Lemke is reading this thread, maybe he can fix it in the next edition. Unfortunately, PSA and SGC probably won't be re-labeling their flips.

It's "Bob" Lemke and he definitely reads and posts on the board. He is generally quick to fix small errors when pointed out.
