Having some RLS issues (Restless Leg Syndrome) so net surfing in bed...here is one of my displays of odds and ends O's stuff...the Robinson boys 1969 Transograms...some 1956 Topps pins of Triandos, Miranda and Smith...the 1957 Swift Meats Triandos, both on card and assembled...the 1955 Robert Gould Joe Coleman, card and figure...1957 Paul Richards Finger Tip Movie...and a couple of 1950's scorebooks...that Food Fair scorebook gets my vote for worst Oriole bird ever

This thread has been fun to review and has helped me reconnect with items in my collection that I have neglected to enjoy for far too long...thanks for starting this

Some awesome pieces shown. It’s pictures like this that definitely sway me from my relatively narrow focus to expand to all these other great Oriole players. My only issue really is expendable income; just don’t have enough for it all. I’ve never seen the Food Fair scorebook. When (hopefully soon) you get around could you please take an individual shot of the scorebook? I don’t know what your talking about that’s a great looking Oriole bird

Like the full boxes of all the snack food. I know I had my share of the various snacks when I was young. Of course I still sneak a few of those still...

Great Brooks gamer Mark!

Here's a 1964 Boog GU bat with cleat marks, ball marks, bat rack streaking and a light coat of pine tar. The knob has the O16 model number and a faded 26.

Here's a set that shows up once in awhile, but no one seems to know much about. The Zipcards sets from 1954-55 have long been debated whether they are actually from that era or printed later. I know I've had my set 35+ years. They come in two sizes (smaller 2" x 2 1/2" and larger 2 3/4" x 3 1/2") and are crude photos, especially the smaller ones. Even old time Orioles collectors from the Baltimore area don't have much information about manufacturer, distribution or reason for different sizes. The sets appear to be complete at 12 cards in 1954 and 13 cards in 1955, even though after the first 10 cards in each set, the cards are skip numbered. I've never seen any other cards offered beyond the 25 pictured. Over the years, I seen a wide range of prices on sets and individual cards. I remember a set in auction years ago that went for around $5000. I don't think the set comes close to approaching that figure today, but an interesting mystery that someone might be able to solve.

RLS is just fancy medical language for "twitchy legs"...happens occasionally at night and is really no big deal...can make it uncomfortable trying to sleep sometimes

Nice post with some cool items. I have all the items, except the Transogram boxes. I had all the Orioles as a kid, but unfortunately I didn't have the foresight to save the boxes, but still have the cards I cut out. You are the only other person I've seen with the Food Fair scorebook. Unusual programs and scorecards are one of my hobby hot buttons.

Even if some of the posts are items I don't personally collect, I'm also enjoying seeing the variety of Orioles items in everyone's collections.

Day 33 (February 2, 2020 – 033)

Today seems like it’d be a good day for a B. Robinson bat. This is an Adirondack 302 model (1968-1971) 277A, weighs 32.5 ounces and has a flared knob. Brooks used both H&B and Adirondack during his career; as you can see this is a block letter type Adirondack.

As a kid there was only Topps and the occasional food issue for me to collect...and in 1970 Kellogg's started putting 3-D cards in cereal boxes...and I would like to quote their cereal sage Tony the Tiger and say “They're grrrrrreat!”*

I completed all the baseball and football 3-D sets years ago....but here are complete 1970 boxes showing the baseball and football cards on the back...along with some duplicate cards for display...Brooks is the feature card on the baseball box. And I like the fact it shows the Seattle Pilots card.

You can find some cut box panels showing the 1970 3-D cards but complete boxes in nice shape are pretty tough and make a nice display.

When I first started collecting I really didn't seek after the '68 Action Stickers, but now, like you, they are one of my favorites. It may be because they're odd and then another reason is I don't understand how did these things could have survived...

I remember those days well, searching the candy and cereal aisles for potential treasures. I just recently completed my 1971 Orioles Kelloggs master set with all the back variations. I'm still looking for the 1977 Wayne Garland (last line ends in "knuckleball") and the 1979 Mike Flanagan (57 K's) variations. Selecting that box of Corn Flakes with a coveted Oriole inside was always a crap shoot. It was always easier sifting through RC Cola cans, Milk Duds and Hostess boxes to find those missing gems.

Some of my favorite sets are from that era, especially the Milk Duds set from 1971. Fresh off their World Series win, 6 Orioles were featured along with Milt Pappas. Milt had long been dealt away and, even as a kid, I wondered why he was pictured as an Oriole. I keep him with my O's set, just for that reason.

I've mentioned previously in this thread, my love of the history of the Orioles franchise from 1954-present, including their minor league affiliates. One collecting goal is to have a photo of everyone to ever appear in a game for the Orioles, pictured in their Orioles uniform. The team issued postcards and 8x10 photos have helped me to appreciate the journeyman and cup of tea Orioles in my collection. Brooks Robinson will always be the man, but quite frankly it's easy to be a Brooks collector, compared to finding that obscure Orioles photo. Believe it or not, the Orioles don't even have photos of a few players. I've asked.

I recently found this photo of an O's player. I'd been searching for him since his debut in 1991. In fact, a recent conversation with one of his friends, Ross Grimsley, revealed that he has been looking for a photo of himself as an Oriole too. While he was in the Orioles minor league system from 1989-1991 and appeared in over 200 games for Rochester and Hagerstown, his Orioles career lasted 4 games and 1 At Bat.

I got as excited when I found this photo, as when I pick up a new Brooks Robinson item. Maybe more. Any guesses....

Yep...they are nice Milk Duds boxes...I am missing the Palmer box to have all the O's...would like to get the Palmer box by cash or trade if somebody has a full box in nice shape...have all the 70's Hostess sets and the two RC Cola sets...here is the 1977 RC Cola set...the 1978 set is larger and a little harder for me to get to right now

One difficulty in creating these is that I'm a stickler for accurate time periods of the photos. Like a 1961 photo of Brooks for a "rookie" card annoys me, Lol.



This is a freakshow thread. It's perfect. I've seen stuff I didn't know existed and beautiful examples of stuff I did. I check this every day I can. It's astounding how meticulously these compilations are kept.

I addition to the regular 1958 All-Star program and ticket stub, I've got a couple other items from the game. A press pass and program (probably sold outside the stadium), but I've never seen that scorecard. Is it made of thicker cardboard? Very cool. Let me know if you ever want to sell it....

Another neat set of Orioles is the Hires Root Beer set from 1958. The set also includes two Orioles has part of their test cards. I wish I could have found them with tabs. Also the "How to Play Baseball" booklet.

Sometimes the hunt for an item is just as satisfying or greater than the item itself. Approximately five years ago my daughter and I were at the Huggins & Scott retail store, House of Cards in Silver Spring Maryland, where she spotted the July 15, 1960 ticket stub. Since this was the game where Brooks became the first Orioles player to hit for the cycle, we had to have it. My daughter scores every game she attends. She purchases a scorecard, usually brings her own pencil and makes entries the old fashion way. Because of her interest in keeping score, whenever I acquire a ticket with special significance, I try to find the accompanying scorecard (preferably scored). After 5 years, I finally found the scorecard on Ebay this past Sunday and received it today. As you can see, Brooks had 5 hits and completed the cycle with a triple in his last at bat. It's funny how I can derive such pleasure from an inexpensive item like this scorecard as opposed to other items in my collection.

Btw, the back of the ticket has a picture of HOF'er Early Wynn.

The sheet is a thinner card stock...probably same thickness as an index card. If I am ever jammed up and need to sell, I will let you know, but I buy this stuff with the intention of leaving a headache for my kids when I kick the bucket.

I am hoping to find regional Brooks cards that may not be available through ebay or shows (hidden treasures from the 1950, 1960 and 1970s). Pictures to, such as Sports Service, Rawlings, Exhibits, Jay Pub, Orioles Post Cards (I have a lot of these but not all and I learn about more routinely). I have a lot of oddball Brooks stuff but looking for more. I have lots of vintage cards to trade. Hope to hear from you.

Very impressive. Thanks for posting and I'd love to see you post some of your Brooksie cards on here for all to see (even though you can go to PSA to view). I don't personally do the PSA registry, but that is such a GREAT collection you have there. Would also enjoy hearing about why you collect Brooks and how long you've been collecting.

Won in a recent auction—Super excited about these 1930’s Orioles minor league autographed photos.

Also won a 1957 scorecard, which I was very pleasantly surprised to learn has been scored (sort of) and was from a game against the Yankees. Brooks rode the pine behind HOF George Kell. Mantle, Berra and Ford are HOF from the Yankees side.

Based on what I found on baseballreference.com, it looks like the game was played August 9, 1957.

Here's the 1968 Orioles Yearbook with a great cover of Brooks and Frank. One of my favorites. I also have an original Morton Tadder photo from what I assume is the same photo shoot, but didn't make the cut. On a side note, a conversation at spring training with Todd Olszewski, the Orioles team photographer, confirmed that the Orioles won't be printing either a media guide or yearbook this year. Sad times for guys like me that enjoy those types of items.

I will collect most anything baseball related especially Orioles. Like most kids, cards were the first things I collected and still comprise the bulk of my collection. However, magazines, programs, etc are also a significant portion and a nice cover of any periodical is really tough for me to resist. Sport was my favorite magazine as a kid. I loved their photos and cut up several issues taping full page pics to my wall or in a scrapbook. Here is one of my favorite covers.

Day 65 (March 5, 2020 – 065)

In 1964 the Orioles had Wally Bunker who was the rookie Pitcher of the Year, then there’s Hank Bauer the Manager of the Year and last but not least was Brooks Robinson who was the AL Most Valuable Player. So, in 1965 they put all three on the cover of the Baltimore Orioles Yearbook. It’s an oversized yearbook and mine is not in the greatest condition, but my father picked it up at the time and I’ve had it ever since; I haven’t upgraded and really don’t plan on it.

Hank Bauer was the Orioles Manager in 1964 replacing Billy Hitchcock till the mid-1968 season and was replaced by Earl Weaver. Hank Bauer, on the batting punch of the Robinsons, Frank and Brooks: "They mean as much to the Orioles as [Mickey] Mantle and [Roger] Maris once meant to the Yankees. I just crank 'em up and turn 'em loose."

On the inside cover of the yearbook there’s an ad for Mrs. Filbert’s Margarine with a nice B&W picture of Brooks with a send in offer.

I agree with you that this is one of my favorite covers on a magazine; love the picture used and setup. I too cut the pictures out and typically stapled them to my walls with the rest of the posters I had tacked up...

The color full page picture of Brooks from inside that issue of Sport Magazine is one of my favorite of all time....

Anyways, back in the winter of '92 I contacted the folks at Ripley's Believe It or Not! about Cal's consecutive game streak..
