Don't you just hate those guys who if they had never discovered sniper services or had fallen asleep on their sofa with a beer and not checked ebay that night would have enabled you to get a card for a super dirt cheap price but instead end up outbidding you when you were sure that your hefty bid was taking you home easily? Sheesh. Jujudrum, whoever you are, I owe you one. Grrrrrrr.

I guess he's a bid early and bid high type. While he did win the Browning he lost out on the Weed, but thats probably little sollace for you given that you weren't after the Weed.

I guess our favorite little 1910 issue is also no longer a secret, just like everything else?

And I thought I was so clever, staying off the card so no one who shadows me could see I was bidding on it. Sheesh. Would have been a nice upgrade for me. Those PSA 4 1909s are like 7s in any other set, Obaks are graded so harshly...

and i guess that i am a bit shocked that it is in the form of a reply. Brian Goldner is my name, and i have been a collector for over 30 years, including a stint as a dealer in the 1980's. Some of you may know me, and some of you may not. i was lucky enough to acquire my first pre-war cards in about 1969, many of which, i wish i still owned. with regard to this forum, i have been a long-time lurker, and enjoy reading everyone's input. thus, the majority of you, need no introduction. i am aware of, and respect each of your contributions to the hobby, and look forward to being part of future discussions. Best, Brian

Hi Brian, anyone who knows me knows my comments were tongue-in-cheek. Nice pickup, welcome to the board.

I've had guys explain to me both sides of the argument:

1) If you can get a card you need, especially a scarce one, get it in whatever condition possible and you can always upgrade later and:
2) Don't waste your time and money buying cards you aren't happy with for your collection because it is a pain to buy and then turn around and re-sell when the right one comes along.

I guess I subscribe to the 2nd theory on commons and readily available cards but definitely follow the first theory when it comes to tough cards. Amazingly enough, when you do get the opportunity to upgrade, you can sell the filler card for more than you paid, a lot of the time.

I would have been on the 1909 north of the final hammer had I not the following concern. Following the cert numbers around the 1909 Obak created enough doubt that I decided not to been.

I hope the card is good. I chose not to risk it...

The beginning of the submission is pretty clear (either 31061594 or 31061600). Not sure how far it goes (it might end at 3106161 or after the T206 run), but there is enough data to get the joke. Here is what I found...
