Default "SABR 50 at 50: Baseball Cards" released

The Society for American Baseball Research is celebrating 50 years through a series of articles celebrating the SABR era, 1971-2020.

Today's article identifies 50 baseball cards--one per year--that tell the story and evolution of the Hobby and the game.

https://sabr.org/50at50/cards

I hope you enjoy the read, and I have no doubt you'll have suggestions for cards we missed along the way.

Jason:

Just so you know the information with the 2009 O-Pee-Chee Joe Mauer is partially correct but the bigger and far more important reason UD left the baseball card market came down to, what do you expect, money!

And it was not just baseball either. UD, which is now doing very well and has recovered financially ran into major issues during the end of the worst of the recession circa 2010:

Football: https://www.beckett.com/news/ufl-ud-lawsuit/

Baseball: https://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/17/s...l/17cards.html

For this SABR group -- which I'm part of, accurate information is a must

Rich

Nice article. I only recognized 17/50 of the cards on the list. I know very little about baseball cards after 1986. I have seen the Gary V card talked about on here.
