Or some one erroneously misspelling Magie, for Magee?

Now take the same steps for the Slow Joe Doyle card, and you'll see that some one erroneously mistook NY Amer Joe Doyle for NY Nat'l Larry Doyle, and placed the wrong league designator on the card.
Fortunately, the league designation error was caught quicker than the Magie misspelling error.
Which causes the even more scarcity of the card.

Simply stated JimB, if it were not for the errors erroneously created by two individuals, there wouldn't be a variation.

If you want to call it the Magie variation, there's nothing wrong with that.
