Nice article. I think of Greinke as a lock but his Baseball Reference metrics are surprisingly (to me) not as good as I thought they would be.

Hall of Fame Statistics
Black Ink
Pitching - 14 (204), Average HOFer ≈ 40
Gray Ink
Pitching - 170 (88), Average HOFer ≈ 185
Hall of Fame Monitor
Pitching - 114 (79), Likely HOFer ≈ 100
Hall of Fame Standards
Pitching - 48 (44), Average HOFer ≈ 50

Thanks for reading, Peter!

Yes, Grienke is an interesting one. By WAR, he clearly belongs in the hall, but I can see why some people have their questions.

By the HOF stats, he's pretty close on everything but Black Ink, which isn't a great indicator in this day and age*.

The solid "gray" but low "black" score means he was often among the league leaders in some key categories, but not very often THE leader.

The fact that a LOT of his career value (almost 50% by WAR, better raw numbers in most stats) came AFTER age 30 makes him a bit unusual, as well.

* - Black Ink gives more points for leading the league in Wins than it does ERA, for example.
