Why should the baseball side have all the fun? Show your boxing related cabinet photos. I'll start with this Sullivan.

Now we're talking! I love boxing cabinets. Since you two started with The Great John L., I will throw my hat in the ring with these:

Not really hard cards but the image clarity made each a keeper for me:




1882 Mora, one of his earliest cards, pirated frequently over the next 15 or so years:



Now some may be saying that doesn't really look like Sullivan and his name isn't on the mount, so how do I know it is him? Well, here are two vintage pieces, an ad for a Sullivan statue and a publication:




The Sullivan statuette ad is on the back of this card:



It shows Sullivan as a young fighter. It appears to me to be a pirate issue based on an early photo.

One of these days I will have to pare down to one card. The signed one makes sense but this English CDV is actually my favorite image:



I'm getting more into CDVs because they are easier to store. A nice mylar in a four-pocket page.

I'll break the rules already, since it's the most famous set of boxing cabinets, but of course T9's are not actually "cabinet cards", they're just big. Picked up this Langford recently, with the rare no-ordering info on back variation. It's.... my favorite picture I own of a man in his underwear?

We've talked about it before, but I love Kung-Fu Gans. Just a great image.

And here is a Corbett I got in a couple months ago after I bought a sweet looking Jackson from a member here who was kind enough to pass it along to my collection. Corbett seems to fit the Sullivan theme best

This is a fun one:



7.5" x 9.5" [10" x 12" mount] mounted photo of Jim Jeffries on his farm in Burbank with his pup, with a handwritten copyright of 1906 By Jas. J. Jeffries and Jas. M. Johnson [perhaps the photographer], captioned "The Good Friends" in pencil on the mount. Purportedly from his estate.

Was sorting through some cards, and found this Fox cabinet with Slavin, not sure why it's the same image as the n174 and m125. I have a number of Slavin cards with this photo and assume it was taken by J Wood.

Fox routinely took Wood images and made cards of them. Until Napoleon Sarony sued over copyright infringement and won [Burrow-Giles Lithographic Co. v. Sarony, 111 U.S. 53 (1884); Supreme Court upheld the power of Congress to extend copyright protection to photography], it was not clear that photographers could enforce their copyrights. A few years later apparently it was still lucrative for pirates to steal images and make cards.

Was anyone successful in landing any of the cabinets in the Lelands auction last night?

There were some really strong prices. They wisely broke them into manageable groups, and the prices reflected it. The better mixed lots went for nearly $200 a card, though I think they missed a signed photo in the Sullivan lot. I chased it up a ways but let it go. The jaw-droppers for me were two Wood cabinets of Bob Armstrong. I'd not seen one of these auctioned before. They went for over a thousand dollars a card; glad I already have one:



They also sold a Joe Gans in rough shape for $854. They got nearly $400 for a 2nd generation cabinet of Sullivan (Webster & Allbee).

I picked up the Jeffries lot and will be breaking it up for resale eventually; a few of the pieces need some research. If one of them is of interest, drop me a PM or email.

I won the lightweight champions lot, which I feel was one of the better bargains in the auction. I really wish they would break up the lots even more. The main item I wanted was buried in a large lot of cabinets. I still just don’t have the patience to buy a large lot, for just one card. The time it takes to research and sell the other cards online just isn’t worth it.

Definitely hear that. I'd have been happy with the lot I won busted into 4-5 lots.

I made a composite of my Sarony cards:



Jem Mace, Paddy Ryan, Jim Jeffries, Jim Corbett

I think I like Sarony's work more than anyone except maybe Chickering.
