Default Show your vintage game used baseballs!

In light of Shoeless Moe's very cool World Series baseball find, I thought I'd start this thread. Here are a couple of mine --

The Navin Field ball is from July 13, 1934 -- Babe Ruth hit a home run that day, and of course it's also a game ball from the Lou Gehrig Streak.
I bought the foul balls from the family of a gentleman who had season tickets at Municipal Stadium in Cleveland. His seats were down the foul line in the first row, so he was able to snag many ground ball foul balls.

Hey Greg,

Not for nothing, but the home run that Ruth hit that day, wasn't it his 700th? Or am I getting the dates confused?

Wow Craig, that's one more thing that's great about this site -- I only looked up the box score and saw that it was Ruth's 14th of the season -- never considered that it might have been number 700. Just did a quick check and you are absolutely correct Craig.
Thank you very much for the info!

Randall -- I absolutely love that Bob Feller pitched ball.
I also have a Dale Long foul ball from later in that same 1956 season.

Brock, I know you like this one, thought I'd add it to this thread for fun. Here's Hank Severeid's first career HR ball. Hit off of "Hi" jasper of the White Sox April 17th 1915.

Sweet! When I found mine I was amazed that it was dated 5/29/56, if he would have hit it straight it may have been the 9th consecutive! LOL

Game ball kept, and inscribed, by Chief Bender, Hilltop Park, April 25, 1912 (vs. Russ Ford).

My parents went out to a game with my aunt and uncle back in '62. This was caught, then given to me by my uncle. My brother once took it outside to play with. A couple of decades later, one of my sons took it out to play with also. Today it survives and is out of the reach of my 3 grandsons.

Graig is a genius, Greg, and has been for about a month now.

Speaking of number 700...

Default 1962 Yankees Team game used ball

Here's a pic of my game used Yankees ball, game was April 17th 1962 against the Baltimore Orioles. Whitey Ford threw the ball to the policeman who was standing in the dugout, person I bought the ball from. He stated that Mantle and Maris was bumming cigarettes from him all game. Ball was authenticated by JSA.............

This baseball was the final pitch of a game on June 15th, 1926 between the A's and the Indians. Rube Walberg had just won his 15th career game by throwing a complete game shutout. HOFer Joe Sewell makes the last out.

Here's one more shot of the Navin Field ball from Ruth's 700 HR game -- this shows the date inscribed on a side panel.
Alos included here is a ball from the Jake Stenzel family -- said to be his last HR ball, and a ball from the 1934 World Series hit by Pepper Martin.

Default George Brett - a GU 3000 Hit Ball

I don't collect GU balls but did pick this one up - it was affirmed by the home plate ump to be one of the balls used in the game when George Brett hit his 3000th hit.

Now I see that it's Greg who has been outbidding me on some of these!!

Here are some of my Wynn win baseballs. I have the ball from his 2000th strikeout, but it's out of reach.

Also a ball used in a WWII service game that Bob Feller pitched in and one that Red Evans pitched in (signed beautifully by him on the other side.)

I know, I've posted these before, but I'm proud of them.

Neat ball! I was actually at the game where George Brett got his 3000th hit on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1992.

The Royals were playing the Angels in Anaheim. A lot of people came to the stadium the day before, but the Royals, in all their infinite wisdom, opted to sit Brett in this game. Their hope was that by doing this, Brett would get his 3000th hit in front of the home town KC fans on their return two days later.
The only way that that wouldn't happen is if Brett at this late stage in his career went 4 for 4, which seemed pretty unlikely...

Lightning struck and Angels reliever Tim Fortugno gave up Brett's 4th hit for # 3,000 late in the game! It was sure fun to see history being made.

BTW, I've been fortunate to have witnessed quite a few baseball milestones in my lifetime. A few others include:

Nolan Ryan's 383 K record setting game in 1973, two of his four 19 K games (1974) and two 1-hitters (1973 and 1979)
Lou Brock's 3,000th hit in 1979 (St. Louis)
Rod Carew's 3,000th hit in 1984, Reggie Jackson's 500th HR in 1985- all 3 of these in Anaheim
Nolan Ryan's 300th win (Milwaukee), his only All Star win in 1989 as well as his final strikeout in 1993 (both Anaheim)
Last game at Arlington Stadium (also last hit George Brett)
Last game at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium
Last HR Eddie Murray (Anaheim)
Mark McGwire HR's 66-70 1998 (St. Louis)
Last game at Tiger Stadium- 1st game at Comerica Park (Both Detroit)
