Default 1952-69 Mantle run with PSA 5 52T on ebay

https://www.ebay.com/itm/303959968373

Wow, right?

But...

Compare the 52T (first picture) with the 52T of the same cert. number sold back in 2008 in Goodwin (second picture).

Draw your own, as the saying goes.

The cards are completely different they aren't even the same variation.

Will the real Mickey Mantle please stand up!

Not sure if Kitty Calisle would be able to guess this one.

Anyone who can't tell should not be buying a 52T Mantle.

But here's a good resource.

The type "Type 2" seemingly has an overlapping, strike through the top left black border around the card. Usually more prominent in the Type A. Also, the font on the PSA holder where the #311 is, and the bar codes are off.

Me thinks it's Fakey Mantle. Steven Serge usually sells cars and came out of nowhere to sell his Mantle collection, so perhaps the poor guy got beat like a red headed stepchild?

Mexican Mantle, yay. Note the barcodes aren't even remotely similar.

Ebay 51 followed by a different one with same cert. The second one is Mile High March 2009.

i thought the 51 looked bad. the bottom line looked humpy or wavy. And the black box looked smudgey dark-like
With these ALL PSA---would this person be on the registry??

In my younger days I would have told the ebay seller, ebay, and Joe Orlando. Now I'm too jaded to bother.

Anybody with no transactions over the past 12 months will show up at 0%.

Both his business's Facebook page and his Ebay page appears to have been very inactive for several years.

Assuming these are fakes, which seems at worst extremely likely, why put a six figure reserve on the auction?

Maybe Mr. Serge (or whoever hijacked his account), got bamboozled himself, and doesn't know they are fakes. Maybe he found out later they are fakes, auction houses didn't want to touch them and he's trying to cut his losses.

Who knows right now?

One things for sure. He really wants to do this mostly off site, whoever is selling this "collection".

Don't think you are allowed to dictate terms of payment like that on ebay.

As always, thanks Peter.

Clearly the cards are different and one set of flips (the ones on eBay) are apparently fake. However, are the cards fake? I don’t know those sets well enough to really tell. But that bottom border on the 51 mantle is atrocious.

The 52T does not have the telltale missing pixel at the lower left corner of the black border. That and the color looks washed out.

Yeah, not only are the barcodes different on the flips, but the printing on the flips is different. On the '52, the grade "Ex 5" takes up two lines where on the Goodwin, it is on one line.

Fake cards, fake flips. I would not be surprised if some of the others have problems also.

This listing was ended by the seller because there was an error in the listing.
