Default National Game cards

Posted By: effe

Hi,
I have a question regarding a boxed set of cards I saw at an antique show over the weekend. The box stated that it was the "National Game", it was dated 1936 and it had a deck of cards with individual players pictured on them as well as baseball plays. I was unable to find this set in my new SCD. Does anyone have any idea what this set might be worth? One other thing, the box was signed by Rudy York and a couple other '36 Brewers.
Thanks,
John

This is an example of the only known (to me) "National Game" set, a game, dated 1913. The cards are usually found in great shape, but sometimes with a pink tone. The excellent condition of most of the cards points to the game not having been very popular.

There's also an "Our National Game" set of very small, not very attractive pins from the thirties--I have one--but it's certainly no card.

No reason why there couldn't have been a "Nationasl Game" regional issue put out by the Brewers (The BREWERS? When you're ignorant, you can learn something new every day--I didn't know there WERE any Brewers in the '30s), though.
Don't suppose you have a scan, since you just saw the thing in passing...

the 1936 S and S Game. I think they list for about 700 or 800. If you can post an image of one of the cards we might be able to better assist you.

I looked up the S and S set in my '99 SCD and sure enough, that was it. She wanted $500 for the set, but without any reference book to check the price out, I passed on it.
Julie- the Brewers were in the American Association from '02 until '52.

and...thanks for the information about the Brewers.

I guess it says "National Game" on the box...they're quite cheap, and not so ugly.
