Default Looking for a bearded player card, any thoughts?

Posted By: B OBrien

I'm looking for a card or two with a good looking bearded player on it. Any of you all have any pics or suggestions. This search has been a little more difficult than I expected.
Thanks,
Bob

The fact that one of your requirements is that the player(s) be "good looking" scares me!

The card guys would be able to help you more, but you'll likely have to search out the N-types to further your project. The only bearded player from the 1910's-30's that comes to mind is a guy named Allen "Stuffy" Benson, but he doesn't have a card. He was a farm boy from South Dakota who pitched very, very briefly for the 1934 Senators. I have a nice House of David team postcard with a whole lineup of good-looking fuzzy guys!

I think hot fuzzy guys are supposed to be referred to as "bears" now. Pretty sure that's the politically correct term.

Bruce Sutter. Gave up a career as a Chippendale dancer after he learned the split-fingered fastball.

reminds me of the Dos Equis beer commercial where it says the guy is so hot, "Even his beard is listed on his Organ Donation card!"

What about a player from the House of David? Did they appear on cards or just photos?

*edited to add: Johnny Damon when he was still with the Red Sox?

The title of the last post conjures up images of Chuck Yeager and New Kids on the Block. What a strange combination!

Stuffy is my Grandpa and one of the few breaded players. If you want pictures or information I should be able to get it. He never had a baseball card though.

Hi Elliot!

Nice to see another player relative frequenting this site!

I wrote to your grandfather several years ago. He signed my index cards and sent five extras! I was under the impression that he was no longer in good health, as your grandmother (?) answered my questions on his behalf.

Out of curiosity, why did he choose to sport a beard? As I said earlier in this thread, I believe he was the only player of his era to do so, so it interests me.

Take care!

Jodi
