Default I thought I was going to "steal this!!!"

This auction just ended on ebay...1914 Balt News Russell was around $100 with less than 1 minute to go...I thought I was going to score it...not today!!!!

It's probably worth 3x that ending price, imo.

Nice win! And by the ebay id, looks like it went to a boardmember who collects these issues.

Default The mighty tug of Ruth

If the Ruth Rookie (and all its hype) wasn't in this set, wouldn't this VG common example be a $500.00 card? Just asking...

Brian

It is an extremely rare and desirable set. I think the value would be there without the Ruth involved. I would have been a buyer at twice the ending price.....maybe more.

Agree as scarce as this set is....having the Ruth at arms distance is a big help on the value of these cards IMO.

Default Whew

Real cool card. I had my finger on a $1,000.00 bid at the 10 second mark and watched it go from 100.00 to 1,300.00 to over 2 grand in the blinking of an eye. I'll bet the seller had no idea what it was worth. I hope someone here got it.

Best regards,

Joe

I am just totally amazed that a $10,000 card was at $100 with less than a minute to go!! Where were all the bidders at?? Or was everyone hoping to steal this card for literally pennies on the thousands??

robert...i was slow at work yesterday...and when I saw it...I couldn't believe it was so cheap. I thought it had to be fake. After scrutinizing it I realized it was real...just thought it was flying under the radar. seller had other older items I figured maybe it was found in one of the older books he was selling. nonetheless...now we know...Balt News cards DON'T get past DAN!!!!!!

Default Great buy

The title of the seller's description was wrong and misspelled. Should have read 1914 Baltimore News. If you were looking specifically for it you may not have seen it. I didn't pick up on it until the last twenty minutes on a generic search.

Looking at price guides and Old Cardboard I knew that it was valuable, but didn't realize how rare. I probably would have bid higher if I had known, but not over Dan's 5 digit snipe. I'm happy that he got the card.

Just confirms that the more you know about cards the better prepared you are to act when presented a buying opportunity. I need more Prewar schooling.

Great job Dan.

Joe

Snipers. Why put in a bid early and have people chip away at it?

Congrats Dan on a great purchase.

Default Baltimore News

I think the Baltimore News cards may have inspired the creator of the La Pizza Royale series.

Ebay used to be a lot easier to scroll through. Now stuff slips through all the time. Nice grab.
