Default Why the three cents?

No, I did not send an e-maikl to Probstein on this matter:

Given the 3 cent premium, maybe he would consider shipping it for $9.97.

Default Why the 3 Cents ?

Why the 3 Cents ?

That's an easy one. Marketing 101. He has a chat board and folks noticing, and that's his whole point. To mix it up, go with a different look, and "get noticed." Wal-Mart did a nice job of this when they came out with Roll back prices decades ago and their cents total for example, was $4.96 instead of the traditionall $4.99. This Chap is trying to get noticed. He succeeded. (Full Disclosure : I don't know the seller)

Yes, exactly. If he would have subtracted 3 cents then we would not have really noticed? (Wal-Mart - been, there and done that) He actually added 3 cents to make the listing jump out and be noticed. The point I was making about Wal-Mart is they wanted to differentiate and they did by putting a bevy of different numbers on the sale signs. It wasn't so much the 3 cents difference in savings as it was they started making everyone notice their prices as they were different than all the other retailers. Consumers noticed. Not to dive too deep into this, but if I were a retailer today, I think I would try the Probstein approach to get noticed. LOL

Maybe at one of those mail-in colleges in the Bahamas, but not here in the U.S.

.03 maybe, not 4900.03

He added a penny every time someone "bought" the card off ebay but failed to send payment.

The goal is to make it look more like someone bid on the item when flipping through a scroll of BINs. Make the BIN look more like an auction.

Default Three cents?

Use it to keep track of consignors???? What do you do if you have more than 100 consignors? Still seems like a marketing ploy to me.

Default A couple of wild guesses...

(1) It may be a code of one sort or another or (2) He had a recent conversation with Kevin Savage whose sense of humor is well known. Third wild guess: a typo.

Default What do you do if you have more than 100 consignors?

I use this just for the accounts that are most actively selling or in cases where there is product overlap....it just makes doing the books easier...
funny thing, never had a comment on ebay ever asking why .01 or .02 etc...
