Default Managers

Started this project some time ago, with Mack it may now be complete, postwar included for completeness. To clarify, these are my top 12 or so managers of all time.

I don't consider any of those in the top 10 managers, do you? Edited my post to make the nature of the project clearer.

It looks like you managed the management of your manager collection quite nicely.

Brian (always on the lookout for threads where I can manage to utilize said word with managerial precision. And nice collection, by the way).

Very cool project Peter! That Connie Mack is really cool. Well done!

Clark Griffith is another big name who managed 20+ years.

According to his SABR bio, he was a player, manager, and owner for at least 20+ years in each category, spanning over 70 years!

Here’s my Griffith I got from another member in a recent trade

All good additions, might I suggest Leo Durocher 1936 National Chicle fine pens as a representative card for him.

+1 and cool project.

A Pinkerton card.. These would be more valuable if anymore existed (of Mack), or any others, in this mystery set.

As a Braves fan I'm 100% with you on Bobby Cox. I just wish he had guided them to more than one World Series win.

I would have Danny Murtaugh ahead of Cox and Weaver, who only won 1 World Series each despite managing much longer. Murtaugh was 2-0 in the World Series beating Stengel and Weaver. He took over a franchise who had finished last or next to last the previous 8 seasons and finished second, two seasons later won the World Series. In his 12 seasons he finished first 5 times and second twice.

The first person to post a card of the baseball manager with the shortest tenure in MLB history will be the winner.

If a shorter tenure exists for a manager without a card, there will be no winner.

In the event of a tie, the manager who played in the fewest games as a player will win.

There is a time limit for this contest --- 5 years.

The OP will provide the prize.

It wasn't good enough for the HOF, surprsingly to me.

If he hadn't had health issues and had managed longer, he would be in the HOF. Same for Gil Hodges, I don't think he gets enough respect for his managing ability. He improved the Senators from 56 wins to 76. Then the Mets from 61 wins to 100 and a championship.

It's funny how LESS rare can increase value, isn't it?

On topic, he might not crack that Top 12, but when Billy Martin took a team over, he always seemed to turn them into a winner. At least until he got fired. He was always fun to watch too. He kept his team active and the umpires on their toes.
