OK...3 more that AREN'T BECKETT, just so you know that I will buy them too!

1. Cobb - Polar Bear Back (SGC - agreed, best for the "old stuff"

2. My toughest card....looked for 4 years for one "CENTERED" 64 pete rose

3. My only GAI - but I do own one, so more may come...hard to find Chipper "DESERT STORM" graded and centered.

Many people don't know this.. But my Minor league collection is more vast than my pre-war collection. I think the many minor league cards are extremely more rarer than say a 33 Goudey card. Many minor league cards were only given out in the stadiums and have small print runs anywhere from 1000 to 10,000. Plus, the players who are still playing now.. Ie A-rod/Vladimir/Pedro/Alomar/Griffey/Piazza/Maddux/Piazza/Bagwell/Thomas.... Their numbers will be up there with the greats of baseball... And the minor league cards are their true "pro" rookie cards in my eyes.... The books says that they are a "nitche" ... Then why are they on the top of most collectors want list to have or they are the favorite card of the collector of his favorite player? Just my opinion as some would say!!! husbnad-of-tammy JC

It was an excellent effort, but I guess there is just more of an interest in modern cards on this board than we thought.

I think a more worthwhile effort would be for us to post as many scans of 1980-90 cards as we can find until everyone goes nuts and demands that we get some moderation. I personally will make sure that this particular thread continues to gets the airplay that it deserves.

Actually, I've always thought the Desert Shield Chipper Jones was a nice card. The best card from a unique set.

Yes, I agree, also, that the moderator should have deleted this thread. My guess, is that it will be our lasting memory of "youme".

I tried moving this thread so that we would not have to look at these cards we canm go buy at the grocery store. If I wanted to see modern cards I would go find another place. I strongly encourage Elliott to eliminate this thread and if anyone is interested in continuing it go to "YOUME's" Forum.

YOUME, Please post this stuff on "your" forum where there are suppose to be people interested in this stuff.

I was going to type more but feel I made point. If there are people reading this forum interested in these modern cards go to YOUME's forum, pleaase.

YOUME, The Cob is nice, but please leave off the modern stuff.

I hope this is the end.

Lee

YOU:
I tried moving this thread so that we would not have to look at these cards we canm go buy at the grocery store

ME:
To the entire forum that,
I promise, I won't talk any more about "post-war" cards, and I apologize for starting this thread. It was wrong. I do collect both, and do wish to remain a member of the forum as I acknowledge the wealth of information here.

That being said, I would like to at least close this thread being accepted as one who collect rare cards, both "PAST AND PRESENT". Lee, your statement above is a little unfair....I could "BET" that you would see at least 100 T206 Ty Cobbs on ebay before you see another graded 92 Little Sun auto of Jeter. I am sorry that I collect BOTH past and present "rare" cards, whereas many of you ONLY collect past cards. And to the one that made the remark about the CHipper Jones, I don't know if you were being a "smart alec" or serious about it being unique. But only 5000 of these were printed (gold embossed with a desert shield)and given to sailors during Desert Shield on ships, and most cards didn't make it back, or were mishandled by sailors where they are not gradeable. I know, because I was one of those sailors off the Coast of Beirut during that war.

Again, my apologies...I will not mention post-war cards on this forum again.

Sincerely,

MIKE (AKA YOUME)

low pop numbers do not make a modern card rare. Just means there haven't been many cards submitted. Comparing your 92 Jeter to t206 Cobb is a total joke.

Jay
