Just curious. What percent of your card collection is

Graded by PSA
Graded by GAI
Graded by SGC
Graded by Other
Raw

Any changes to these percentages in the short term? In the long run?

thanks in advance for humoring me...

100 % of my collection is RAW. And, that is the only
way I want it. I can "Touch....Feel....Caress....Smell"
all the cards of my sets (1888 - 1967). The "smell" is
an important factor, since I can't stand cardboard that
has a milldew odor.

I do acquire cards that are graded and if they are going
into my collection....I "de-plasticize" them. I collect for
the long-term; and, I am very skeptical of the long-term
effects of the graded card industry.

I own 6 graded cards in my collection and I did not get them graded but bought them that way and don't want to risk taking them out etc. I love the feel and look of a raw card. You can take it out and tilt it towards the light just right and get a nice glare off of it. The smell is also good. I don't have any nasty smelling cards in my collection yet, and I dont think i'll ever own one because if theyres a really bad smell it probably mildew which is a no no for my cards. So i'd say atleast 95 percent is raw and ungraded and 5 percent or less is graded.

Graded card breakdown

SGC 46.6%
BGS/BVG 30%
PSA 21.6%
GAI 1.6%
Total 98.8 % (lost some in the remainder)

My PSA graded cards have been growing more than usual lately, since it's getting harder to find some of the cards I like in another holder and also some PSAS 2's have shown up on ebay that looks like a 5 but due to some minor glue gets the 2 grade. The PSA and maybe the GAI holders will be switched to SGC if I decide to keep them in the long term collection.

Of the encapsulated cards I have I would break it down to the following:

65% SGC
34% PSA
about 1% Other (GAI, BVG, SCD, etc - No PRO or garbage like that)

The main reason for the encapsulation is that I either purchase the cards this way or I have them encapsulated to protect them. Over all, a small portion of my card board is slabbed.

Personally, I like the touch and feel of the card (sometimes they just stink so I wont say I always like that moldy aroma of certain cards). I suppose one could argue that I could put them in a screw down or something similar so that I can release them on demand but I'd rather keep them protected from myself and the possibility that I might accidentally damage them.

If the question was - which would you most likely buy: an SGC or PSA or GAI graded card? Then the answer would be any of them. As long as they look good to me that's what counts. You know that saying - "buy the card, not the holder." If it looks funny (possibly trimmed) then I adjust what I feel I would pay for the card. If it's not available at that price then I usually don't get the card.

I have 129 cards in my collection and it breaks down like this:

PSA - 92 cards (71.4%)
GAI - 4 cards (3.1 %)
SGC - 27 cards (20.9%)
BVG - 6 cards (4.6%)
Other - 0 cards
Raw/Ungraded - 0 cards

of the pre-war cards in my collection:

80% PSA
10% SGC
5% GAI

5% ungraded

I collect mainly Goudeys. The cards in high grade in these sets are generally in PSA holders. That's the main reason for the big percentage in PSA cards. If it wasn't for the Goudeys, or if PSA didn't have a stronghold on high grade Goudeys, I'd guess it would be around 60/40 SGC/PSA

10% PSA
5% SGC
5% GAI
80% raw

The holders are mostly a function of the holders they were in when I bought them. I have crossed over a few and submitted a few raw cards when they fit into a set and I want them all in the same type of holders.

70% SGC
29% PSA
1% Beckett and GAI.

I try not to buy second tier service cards and when I get them I usually remove them and either keep them raw or cross them over.

Only a fraction of my collection is slabbed. I just don't see the point in spending the money to slab the vast majority of the postwar cards I own.

Of my pre-war cards about 10% are graded, and of that 10% about half are PSA,about 40% sgc and 10% GAI. I dont have any by other grading services and ive never sent a card to be graded.

17 PSA
16 SGC
2 GAI

80ish ungraded

I try to buy graded by legit seller/dealers mainly for the authenticity factor, I've been burned before! If it's not graded, there must be no doubt in my mind that it is authentic...which forces me to buy from legit sellers/dealers...and people here on the board.

I only have one card graded, and that is just because I have been too lazy to pop it out. About 1/50 of 1% of the cards I have purchased over the decades have been graded.

In my personal collection...approx....

100 SGC
1- PSA (it's a PSA7 and SGC said it would only get a 6... it's a Batter UP)
0- GAI

800 or so raw.....

I like my valuable ones in holders for many reasons.....
best

Of the cards that I'm currently collecting, I guess about 20% SGC, 20% PSA, and 60% raw. Of the graded ones, I submitted about 80% of them myself.

23% - SGC (by far my favorite)
6% - PSA
5% - GAI
66% are ungraded

I'd have a higher % of graded cards if I lived in the states. Submitting from over here in Holland is a nightmare. I don't even try it anymore.

Ciao for now,

Mike

I only use PSA for my grading. I may have a few SGC that I bought but, not many. My problem with SGC & GAI is the card sliding behind or in front of that black insert.

Most of my prewar items are graded. Usually I have a couple cards in the que waiting to be crossed over, but at the moment, it's . . .

100% SGC
