Vintage BB cards source photos....Let's see your's ?
1905 Connie Mack photo
E96 card Elmer Flick photo (circa 1901) Why is Lefty O'Doul smiling in this 1929 photo ? With #s like these in 1929: BA = .398....254 hits....32 HR....152 Runs....122 RBI....and only 19 K's...... you would be smiling, too ! 1933 GOUDEY Photos used to create 1949 - 1951 BOWMAN cards TED Z |

I don't think the Mack and Flick and the photo source for those cards. The angle and positions are wrong. Seeing others posted in the past they are usually spot on like the ones you have below.

Mack and Flick
Nice collection of player photos. Not to be onery, but would the Mack and Flick photos be considered source photos for the cards shown? You definitely see that the cards accurately reflect Mack and Flick, but in each case in the photo their head is turned at a different angle than what is depicted on the card. Thoughts?

Mack and Flick photos
I think Philadelphia Caramel made a mirror image from this 1905 photo of Connie Mack to produce this card.
If you look at the entire photo, I think this will be evident. The photo I have is pretty large for my scanner. However, I'll try to post it when I get a chance. Regarding the Elmer Flick photo, perhaps the artist at American Litho. used a photo like this and was a little creative in the process. TED Z |

pretty cool post/items...i don't mean to be a party-pooper (Ted- don't take offense), but i also noticed the Mack & Flick were not the same images (Mack's expression, head angle & age are different, and his hair & ears are both higher on his right side, couldn't be a mirror image)...and Flick's pic is just totally different...when an image is exact, it just looks "dead-on", like your other examples...i remember awhile back, someone's website who was linked from the old Net54 (Trae's?), had many scans of photos that became images for cards.

Steve, I've never seen the original Royal Gorge photo before. The artist definitely tried to make the river look more fierce than it was.

Not exactly a source photo, but the magazine image predates the card image by 2 years!

Hey JIMMY....great photos, guy
I too, love collecting "source" photos. We can never be certain that these photos were the ones that
their respective cards were created from....however, if they match, it's nice to imagine that they were. 1948 pix of Leroy Robert "Satchel" Paige and his 1949 BOWMAN cards. TED Z |

Nice piece Pete. Keep them coming Guys !
The actual negative used to create this card. Acquired from the Topps Vault:
1958TOPPSvaultnegative.jpg1958mantleaaron.jpg A terrific shot of the Splendid Splinter that was later used as the cover of Newsweek Magazine. I about crapped myself when I stumbled accross the magazine a few years after I had already bought the photo. williamsROOKIEyear.jpgNewsweek1946Williams.jpg |
