Default How come Jackie Robinson Doesn't have a 1951 Card?

I have been looking at Jackie Robinson cards and have noticed he doesn't have a card in any 1951 sets. Does anyone know why?

Most likely a contract thing. There are numerous instances of players from the early 50s not appearing in various sets.

In 1951, JRobby signed with TOPPS to be in their 1952 - 1956 sets.

Therefore, although BOWMAN included Jackie in their 1949 & 1950
sets, they lost the Rights to include him in their 1951 set.

I wonder why Topps didn't include him in the 1951 Red Back or Blue Back set? As far as I know his only non-Topps card after 1950 is the 1952 Berk Ross, which is believed to be an unlicensed issue. There's other post-1950 non-Topps Jackie Robinson stuff such as Star-Cal Decals, Canadian Exhibits, New York Journal-American, Team Schedules, Team Picture Packs, etc. However, those aren't technically "cards".

The Jackie Robinson Topps exclusivity that Ted referred to above was, in part, as a result of Jackie's radio program, which was sponsored by Topps. It was part of the quid pro quo for the dual sponsorship.

It must have been frustrating back then for Musial fans. No 50, 51, 54 or 55 Bowman. No 52-57 Topps.

One of my biggest annoyances of the 50's sets.

That and Ted missing in 52, 53.
