Wow... crazy dimensions in that Coliseum! Anybody know how many feet it was down the left field line for a homer? Looks to be less than a 300 foot poke, but just guessing...

Hey Mark.

According to the slug on the back of the photo... the screen is 42 feet high and it's 250' (that's two hundred fifty feet!!!) down the line.

Best, Jimmy

BTW... the Giants won the opener 6-5.

That's just nuts... I would loved to have seen a game there. Hard to believe there was not a better option/configuration for baseball somewhere else in So Cal in '58. I bet a slew of balls were hit into that giant net... looks like it was a "clear" monster (instead of the green monster).

Also of note...Wally Moon became very adept at slapping high fly balls down the line that would just clear the screen that were aptly named "Moon Shots".

And the oh-so-long Right/Right-Center Field Fence certainly kept the Duke out of the HOF for many years.

Below is a signed exhibit card from Solomon "Hampton" Coleman. I wrote an article about him recently which is linked below, regarding his close call with the Dodgers.

Default My Dodgers

In the 1980's my dad used to host card/autograph shows here in Chicago. He brought in big names like Pete Rose, Bob Gibson, Stan Musial, Robin Roberts, Eddie Mathews etc & the 3 guys shown here. I got to sit for hours with all these guys as they signed and I kept the line and items moving along. In my teens I didn't think that much of it but now in my 40's I realize how lucky I was to spend time with baseball royalty. I tried to get a signed photo of ech guy I sat with and these are my Dodgers.

Here is some of my stuff.

Directly below is a c. 1949-1950 Brooklyn Dodgers travel grooming case. It celebrates the 1949 National League Pennant Championship. Inside are all original grooming cases, hair brush, mirror, comb and nail file.

Here's a pretty great jacket in the Heritage Auction closing in a couple weeks on April 22 & 23. I've never seen the style offered before, and this one was worn by Joe "Ducky" Medwick. He and Chuck Dressen were the only two guys ever to wear number "77" for the Dodgers, and Dressen was a tiny little guy, so it's definitely Ducky's:

An extremely scarce 5" plastic Jackie Robinson statue that was advertised on the back of the Jackie Robinson Comic books from the early 1950's. The heavy bronze version is a fantasy piece made decades later (unfortunately I bought one several years ago ). This original piece is in stunning NM/MT condition and now sits next to the fantasy piece.

I thought this was a pretty cool piece, in our current Signature Auction. It's a rare variation of the 1916 Brooklyn World Series press pin (not exactly common in any format). But every one I've ever seen has the threaded post on verson. This one has a pin, but it's definitely original because there is no scar from the removal of the post.

Congrats Jason!

I never expected anything like this when I started this thread last summer!

It is such a wonderful photo. I have a good feeling about the National...

My very best wishes to you and your family Jason.

Yes - many congrats Jason... much deserved!

Jimmy... I kinda knew this thread would have some "legs". Check out post #18, where I speculated "this one will go forever". It's gone on for so long now that I don't even own half of those items anymore!

You've started some amazing threads... I wonder if this is the longest-running, or if there's another one that beats it?

The second image is the moment after Koufax struck out Bob Allison to end the seventh game of the 1965 World Series, with the Dodgers overcoming the Jim Kaat and the mighty Twins for the title. The scoreboard in right thanks the Twins faithful for being the "greatest fans in the world", as the boys in Dodger blue file into the dugout and clubhouse without the fanfare we've all become accustomed to.

Craig, those Koufax paintings are awesome! your talent is incredible.

I also posted this Jackie Robinson Bank on the May Pickups thread, but that one will soon give way to the June Pickups (and will quickly fade away...)

So I am posting here, and asking if any other forum members have seen this version? I believe it to be very rare... first I have seen in 20 years of collecting these banks. The others I am aware of are as follows...

Pirates
Tigers
Reds
Indians
Yankees with Gehrig/Dickey
Pride of the Yankees

Any others out there that I am forgetting?

My wife's hairdresser also did Clem Labine's wife's hair (he lived in Woonsocket RI just up the road from Providence). Some time ago she gave her this picture Jackie signed for Clem back around 1950 or so when Clem made the majors.

I thought it was pretty neat to have one teammate sign for the other, so I got her to let me make a professional copy of it

Default Dodger photos

Not sure which thread these belonged in, but just picked up about 20 original photos of various Brooklyn Dodgers from the late 40's thru early 50's. While the Robinson and Snider poses have been around before, I have before never seen the ones of Pee Wee and Hodges. And a great shot of Erskine in the silk jersey.
