Default Saturday National Report

Up and at it and inside the venue by 8:30. Glenn and I have VIP tickets we can’t enter until 9:30 so we walk to Starbucks then return as the rope drops the show is open. Really just the same routine walk down each aisle looking for something to catch my eye. By mid day it was crowded again and stayed that way until nearly 4 then things cleared out some. After the show we met back at the Black Cat Bar where OBC held its annual “swap”. We were pretty tired so didn’t stay to late but I enjoyed the “small” calzone which will serve as lunch too.
I was again able to cover the whole show floor, here are the stats for Brian to compute:
Spent $1,564** (note the ** as I spent $764 at the show then made a single card purchase at the OBC swap session $800). Steps walked 13,459 or 5.71 miles.
Purchases include a 1953-54 Parkhurst NHL hockey album $75 which was about $50 below eBay prices. I’ve always liked 1955 Topps double headers and only have a handful in my collection well I bought out a dealers stock of 19 cards for $150 or $8 each which is a good deal so I’m off on another set quest a couple of doubles but Lopat, Dusty Rhodes, and Skowron are here this is such a great set. Later I was thumbing through a non sports binder mostly 60s Batman cards dealer says $2 each so I pick the #1 and #2 cards Batman and #2 is Robin hand the dealer a five and he gives me my change. I think he regretted selling me those two cards because his attitude sort of changed towards me I don’t know but he never said anything else I just got a vibe. I made an offer for the whole binder but we couldn’t strike a deal. I left my want list at his table so I had to return a few minutes later to retrieve it maybe I should have said something I don’t know but I avoided eye contact and split the scene lol.
I bought five Gilligans Island cards for the doubles box and a few more 1939 and 1940 Playball baseball cards for my sets.
I’m two cards away from 1948 Bowman basketball #58 Arnie Risen and of course #69 George Mikan I looked all show for # 58 and never saw one. But I did purchase two “print freaks” from this set one of the play cards and one other it’s a grey front but the backs have the print from the basketball cards and the fronts on the 1948 Actress cards and also the printing from America Salutes The FBI cost for those two $125. I showed them to a dealer who specialized in basketball he had seen some before. I also got two free “Backyard Breaks” T -shirts lol.
The big purchase at the OBC dinner finished my 1941 Play Ball set #71 Joe DiMaggio in an SGC 1 holder for $800.
Looks like we are going to skip the last day of the show and head towards home with a stop at Philadelphia airport to drop Spike off. All in all a great time here. Ibuprofen count a surprising zero all week.
Larry
